Anyone take r-lipoic acid?

What do you take it for, how much, for how long, with what other supplements, with what side effects, and what has the response been? I was reading Primal Body, Primal Mind and it mentioned R-lipoic acid and Acetyl-L-carnitine for neuropathy. ConsumerLab also recommends GLA. I have allodynia that comes and goes in one leg and would like to see if it helps for context.

Type II diabetic here. I just bought some and took my first pill yesterday. Brand is Life Extension. So not sure what it will do.

I take it.

I'm a type 1 diabetic, so I take this to protect myself just in case I get high blood sugars.

As I understand it, its important to get the sustained/slow release version of this stuff, since it has a short life in your body otherwise.
