Animal-derived Vitamin B Supplement?

Answered on August 19, 2014

I am looking for a specifically animal-derived vitamin B supplement and am finding it surprisingly difficult. My children eat a vegetarian diet and irregularly consume eggs and dairy, but they are willing to take supplements that come from animals. I believe that animal-derived vitamin B is more effective than vegetarian sources. Anyone know of a vitamin B supplement that is animal-sourced?

Thank you, Warren. It sounds like you believe that the Argentinian beef is higher quality than the sources in Dr. Ron's product. That is impressive -- I will check it out.

Jennifer, Argentinian beef is some of the best in the world. I have read that Solgar use liver from the pastured cattle because they want the best quality. Pastured animals are less likely to need medicating than feed lot animals. There's loads of info about Argentinian beef if you have a search on the internet.

Thanks for your reply, Warren. Do you know if Argentinian beef pasture-raised and/or chemical free (hormones & antibiotics)?

The Solgar liver tabets are made from Argentian beef liver. It's about as good as you can get.

That looks like a great source, thank you. I just called and inquired with the Solgar company about the conditions the animals are raised in and whether the product is antibiotic & hormone-free. Do you happen to know of a source of pastured, natural desiccated liver?

That one is in tablet form, so it's a lot less disgusting.

For anyone who is interested in the latest information about Argentinian beef, here is an interesting article from NPR discussing the facts about it no longer being pastured and all-natural:

I see that a few people are recommending Argentinian beef liver.

Does anyone know if it is typical for Argentinian beef to be pasture-raised and/or chemical free (hormones & antibiotics)?

Fruits, eggs, milk and tubers are all good sources of B vitamins, no need to supplement.

Liver powder without additives would probably be the best supplement but it might be tough to convince kids to eat a lot of that stuff and it shouldn't really be necessary if they eat enough food.
