Are sulfites required to be listed on ingredient labels in USA?

I thought sulfites were commonly used as a preservative on things such as potato chips & corn chips. However, as I was browsing around looking for a potato chip made with olive or coconut oil, it occurred to me that I didn't see sulfites listed on any of the products, even the "unhealthy" ones.

So, if I don't see sulfites listed, can I be reasonably sure they are not in the product?

Thanks,

Mike

PS: after I typed this question, I found this from Herr's potato chip company. They have a column for "sulfites" on their allergen PDF and only their party mix and honey peanuts have sulfites. Good to know:

I have the sense that it's only listed if added, not as part of a sub-ingredient, unless the overall level exceeds 10ppm
