I've been mostly paleo for about a year now. I'm pretty loose with the diet on the weekends, mainly cheating with alcohol and sugar. I'd like to dial things in, so I was thinking of doing a Whole 30. I've also been trying to get my husband on board with Paleo (for the past year!) and he is showing some interest in doing a Whole 30 with me.
The biggest obstacle to getting him to do it is alcohol and honestly, it's a pretty big obstacle for me too. We don't drink a ton, but when we go out with friends we'll have a couple drinks (beer or wine). I know beer is definitely out, but how bad is it to have a couple of glasses of wine once a week? Will it make a huge difference as far as seeing/feeling the benefits of a whole30?
By the way, I realize it sounds ridiculous to not be able to go without alcohol for 30 days. I don't have a good excuse for myself, I just like an occasional drink.

Mandy, there's only 4 carbs in a 5 ounce pour of red wine. I think it's totally reasonable to fit in 5-10 grams of carbs a week from wine. That's less carbohydrate than is in most fruits. A 3/4 cup serving of strawberries comes in at 8 grams of carbs. One medium peach has 15 grams. You wouldn't beat yourself up over eating either of those, would you?
So go enjoy your wine! I'll be enjoying some, too :-)
