Sugar Cravings/Coffee

Ive been pretty paleo for about a year except for my morning cup of coffee. Its the only sugar I was having daily, not too much, maybe a teaspoon of brown cane sugar and heavy cream.

Ive finally been able to kick the cream and sugar in my coffee and am now drinking it black and I find it okay. I dont enjoy my coffee as much but I still like it very much black.

Since doing this last week, Ive noticed that I'm craving sweets more, so I've been having a little more fruit than usual.

Is this normal? Will it pass?

I used to drink my coffe black, now I just added (i think it's called..) heavy cream (slagroom in dutch). I like that more. Sometimes I add cacaopowder or cinnamon, it gives a sweet taste...

Quit drinking your coffee black and live a little. A little creamer won't hurt in the long run. I won't do without it.

Maybe since you just cut out the last of the sugar, even though it was just a little, your body is now really craving it. It could pass in a few more days. Maybe you should try to eat a little bit of fruit in the morning and see if that makes you feel good. Just maybe...

After 20+ years of cream (no sugar) I just went "cold turkey" about 6 months into Paleo...one year total now being Paleo. Surprisingly, I didn't miss it and now find black coffee very enjoyable. I may add a heavy teaspoon full of coconut oil 3-4 times a week. I find it an interesting tasty change...almost filling.

A side note: I often ponder the fact that at the end of the day, we could probably do without coffee and likely experience a much more regulated morning. Without the rush, then crash...followed by some mental cravings for stuff we shouldn't be eating. Still, so far not enough for me to need to drop coffee. I still like my coffee and booze.

I would add some cream back in but without the sugar - and it doesn't have to be a huge amount. Try a tablespoon to begin with and play around with it. I've repeatedly read that sugar/sweet cravings can be remedied with the addition of fat (as Cori said above) but I never believed it until lately. Recently, my body has SCREAMED for it after my having reduced my overall intake in order to add back some carbs. I finally realized how very true the theory is and my body is thanking me all over the place, including on the scale.
