Another Poop Question

I've been trying to reach poop nirvana the last few months and I've experienced every type on the Bristol Stool Scale.

For the most part, I think I'm getting better. I've been drinking bone broth..cut out dairy..limited my fruits..and for the most part have also drank substantially less alcohol. I've also lost weight (12 lbs the last few months) but I think its due to me eliminating foods and not eating enough fat to make up for the loss of the foods. I would guess fat is still 40% or more of my daily calories. Also the less beer/booze I'm consuming probably has also factored into the weight loss.

I do get a tightness on my right side from time to time. About 8 inches to the right of my belly button or directly above my hip. I can feel this tension sometimes if I drink coffee on an empty stomach..or after a meal..or just random times. This tightness does not hurt but is annoying and worrisome. Other times I can feel it both on my left side and right. Although on the left its more of a warm sensation. Inflammation?

Over the past few weeks I would say my poops seem a lot better. Hardly no constipation and if I'm in the diarrhea zone..its not #7 on the Bristol chart but more like #5 or #6. Most my poops are #3 and #4 now. Which I think is ideal.

Yesterday I felt good all day (#3/#4 on the scale) and last night I had 3 hard apple ciders and 2 glasses of wine over a period of 6 hours. Noticed the hard apple ciders were high in sugar (19g per bottle, 26g of carbs per bottle).

This morning when I had a BM...if I had to describe it on the scale it would be closest to a #6 but a really dark brown that floated.

I'm wondering if this poop which is not normal the past few weeks is due to the alcohol and more carbs/sugars that I'm use to. Hangover poop? Although I am not hungover.

Thanks,

Probably the following day. Also depends on what you had eaten in the meantime.

How long would the running stools last from drinking? A day? 2? a week?

The alcohol was more than normal but not more than normal on a weekend when I do drink. Now I am having weird GI symptoms again. Constipation/Diarrhea in the same sitting if that makes sense.

I'm thinking of taking an ALCAT test to discover food sensitivities.

Alcohol can cause runny stools. If you're constipated, it can help that out a lot, but if you're already on the loose end it's not so great.

Thanks. Do you know if added sugar or alcohol would drastically change the color of the poop?

You may also want to look into a food elimination diet or getting your blood tested for IgG allergies. I had a similar pain in my right upper abdomen and it turns out that I'm intolerant to gluten, dairy and eggs! As soon as I stopped eating those I was perfect.

+1 for the expression poop nirvana. Another thing you may want to pay attention to is smell. My theory is that healthy poop doesn't smell. If no one wants to use the bathroom after you, you haven't reached nirvana.

Congrats on the improved poop. To achieve Poop Nirvana you really have to stick to a routine, any deviations will effect the poopiness of your poops.

Tightness in the areas you describe sounds like colon cramping/spasm. I have it every day because of IBS.

From my interpretation of the poop guide in Practical Paleo, it looks like your body is reacting to something it does not like. If the alcohol you consumed is more than normal it may be enough to cause a shift in your poop performance. If you remove them from your diet again what happens?
