Added sugar in salsa - whole 30

I'm almost done with my whole 30 (currently on Day 30. Feeling great results. I realized a brand of salsa I bought nine days ago has sugar listed as it's ninth ingredient (three are 13 ingredients). I usually use 1-2 tablespoons (2 tablespoons are in a serving) a day and the nutrition info lists one gram of sugar per serving (which I think some of that sugar comes naturally from the tomato and tomato paste). At the most I am getting 1g of added sugar a day. Is that enough to stop my metabolism from healing?

I will be sure never to buy that salsa again.

I agree. The point of the Whole30 is really to break your sugar addiction from what I understand, so if you haven't been reaching for the salsa as a source of sugar or even aware that much was different than unsweetened, I would say you're fine. Just make sure to buy a different brand next time!

Thanks! The salsa was your standard run of the mill tomato salsa - and I definitely will either make my own or be more vigilant about reading labels (I thought I was, but I guess I need to read two-three times to get everything in).

There are much more important things to worry about than <= 1g of added sugar in 2tbsp of salsa. :-)

Next time, make the salsa yourself or just buy a brand without any added sugar.

As a side note: "fruity salsa" like a spicy mango salsa, will undoubtedly have added sugar as fruit puree, but in those cases, you're sort of getting what you'd expect to get.

Easy pico recipe: diced tomatoes, white onions, and jalapeno. Toss in some cilantro, salt, pepper. Adjust ingredients to your taste.
