"Snapping" sensation when strength training

I feel so silly asking this but when I was using the pull up machine yesterday it felt like tiny fibers in my arm were snapping while pulling myself up. It didn't hurt, just felt really weird. I'm a newbie to strength training (4 weeks now 3x/wk) and I just noticed this for the first time the other day. Is this a good thing?
