Thanksgiving (Canadian) got the best of me!

Being recently married, I had to go to TWO turkey dinners this weekend. I clearly over indulged and my stomach is reminding me just how terrible pre-paleo life could be.

Between frequent and unpleasant bowel movements and a possible hemmeroid flare up, I need to figure out how to get back to the beautiful balance I had achieved previously.

I've been taking my probiotic and enzyme supplements, but they're hardly making a dent.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

(safe to say I've learned my lesson about deviating so greatly from a successful routine)

Raw sauerkraut was also my first thought!

I was in the same boat this weekend, two big dinners! Everything was all good except for that darn stuffing, and who can turn down the stuffing?

Okay, so if you are relatively new on the whole paleo/primal thing- one day, in the future, it would be ideal if you can have "slip ups" like this and not be dying for days afterwards. The fact that this threw you for a huge loops means that your gut is not yet resilient. And, if a lot of damage has been done, maybe it won't be all that fabulous and resilient ever. But, in a really great world where your gut has been beautifully colonized by flowering bacterial colonies, and all your nutritional deficiencies are obsolete, and you can go to Thanksgiving without it making you feel like thawed death- than you've done good. You are not at that point- yet (or, may possibly never safely get there- gut damage is powerful). Don't think that because you have had this one terrible experience you must never, ever, not ever eat anything that has touched gluten or seen a drop of seed oil ever. Your fate has not been sealed- enjoy your changing health, and see what the future brings! Two years ago, Thanksgiving would have had me on my back moaning and dying. This year, I ate the stuffing and it made me a little bit bloated for all of a couple hours. Things will change.

Realistically it probably will just take time. If you are sensitive and talking Gluten-dose you are talking six months. If you are talking over-eating? A day.

Lots and lots of water, along with raw sauerkraut would be a good start. Be sure to keep your food a bit simple for a few days. Seasonal vegetables with meat or fish and simple healthy fats. Good luck.
