Stock from lobster?

Answered on September 12, 2014

I was treated to a lobster dinner for my birthday. Much better than a cake, but it got me wondering. I've got the remains of 3 lobsters. Can I make stock out of this? I've got most of the shell and the head/body portion.

Any suggestions on recipes on lobster stock would also be appreciated.

Oh that is perfect! I must persuade everyone of the need to celebrate birthdays with the traditional lobster dinner.

Y'know, lobster stock kind of sounds good. I bet it could make a great chowder or cioppino.

I freeze mine in ice cube trays (I bet they make nice, bendy silicon ones) and pop the "meat cubes" out into a ziploc for freezer storage. That way, you can toss in a cube or two with whatever you're cooking!

http://fishcooking.about.com/od/soupsstewsstocks/r/lobster_stock.htm Once you've made the stock oh could make Ll kinds so fabulous soups/stews, or use it to give saut??ed veggies some good flavor too. Lucky you!

It wasn't a stock. It was a stock lobster!

It can definitely be done. I followed the recipe from Simply Recipes and got great results for shrimp shell/head stock, and so-so results for the lobster stock.

One thing to note: the stock goes bad quickly. Make sure to use it within a couple days of making it, or else freeze it. I let it sit in the fridge for only a week and it smelled like cat urine.
