What is everyones method for thickening, i sometimes struggle with it, i mix it with a bit of cold water & pour it into my stew with varying results, sometimes it thickens sometimes it doesn't.

Use it all the time to thicken stews.

Arrowroot is awesome. I also use it to make a roux for sauces and gravies. 2 Tbsp fat + 1 Tbsp almond meal + 1 Tbsp arrowroot.

It is, and you can substitute 1 : 1 as you would use flour. You won't be able to tell the difference.
