What is the least Paleo/Primal aspect of your life?

Answered on August 19, 2014
Created May 25, 2013 at 1:55 PM

Is there something in your life that makes you think "if I made some changes with 'X' I think it would be for the better"?
For me it is exercise. I tend to go too hard, too long and too often. In my head I know if I knocked it down a notch (or several) it would more than likely be for the better but I still find myself doing too much too often.

We were always more whole foods and local organic than SAD but they got to an age where they love bread and the like before we started tinkering with paleo.

We were always whole foods and local organic so not SAD but also not paleo until they were about 5 and 3 years old and already big fans of breads and the like.

1.) Alcohol about once a week. 2.) COFFEEEEEEEE. 3.) Lots of raw chocolate products (sometimes containing agave nectar). 4.) Deli chicken when I'm stuck. Occasional sesame/olive oil and honey in salads from said deli when I'm stuck. 5.) Could have better quality fish/meat but I'm on a budget. Lots of mackerel for now!

I love beer and beans. I just DO and there is no satisfactory substitute for these things.

(The next person that tells me to have hard liquor instead of beer is getting punched in the face, particularly if I follow that recommendation cause one of the two F's is probably going to happen if I drink liquor.)

Food-wise, for me: cooking with coconut flour.

Otherwise: being on the Internet.

Truly I can't even call myself paleo, since 3 days a week my food gets smothered in canola oil. I work in a restaurant, and when you have a 12 hour shift and lack a microwave to reheat things, you just end up eating restaurant food. I'm lucky enough to work someplace that focuses on local, sustainable food options, and the meat is raised well, but it still gets a dose of canola oil.

On the plus side, I'm pregnant and having a baby in July, so no more restaurant food after she's born! Hooray!

Eating sprouted bread several times a week. Using sugar in my coffee. Hot sauce with loads of ingredients that can't be found in nature. Alcohol, an occasional cigarette......

I wear makeup at least a few days a week. I tried no poo for a week and gave up, but I now use organic, sulfate & paraben free shampoos and conditioners, which aren't Paleo but are still better. I also wear nail polish sometimes. I tried deodorant and the crystal stuff, but they didn't work and I returned to my antiperspirant. I use my iPhone a lot, also. And I tend to stress out a bit.

I'm not particularly bad in any one aspect, just a little bit bad in a lot of areas.

Alcohol, and I still consume some dairy and I WILL have pasta 1 or 2 x a week simply because I love it. A life without good cheese and a little pasta is not a life worth living for me (and same goes for a life without alcohol. I'm a mom, okay?!) :)

I had started using those Thai crystals for my underarms but it's just too hot and humid where I live, and because I'm afraid of getting smelly, I keep giving in and wearing antiperspirant, and then messes up the whole process of the Thai crystal. SO that's not very paleo either.

I too love nice-smelling bath products and will certainly use some anti-aging creams.

But I am okay with my semi-paleoness. It is still better than no paleo at all.

Being stressed about ridiculously small and ultimately unimportant things is prolly the least paleo aspect to my life. Does occasionally eating popcorn and stressing about it count as a double non paleo aspect?

I eat quite a bit of not the best meat and farmed fish, because it's very difficult to get decent meat where I live (Dubai). I've only found one store in the city that sells free range chicken!

I get up and go to sleep very late. I've always been a night person but I'm worse in the summer here, because I like to walk my dog at 2am when it's not so hot. I sleep usually from 2-3am to 10-11am.

I eat out a lot. Paleo but you never know what's added or what the food is cooked in

I don't exercise nearly enough. I just don't enjoy it and find it mentally BORING. I go through stages of doing well, and then stages of nothing. I liked MMA but am off it until my broken nose is fully healed

I love beauty products, and I don't really both to look at the ingredients!

Beer and running. Although I dispute that semi-occasional, modestly long runs aren't paleo, preferring the persistence hunting theory of African homo development as an explanation for how great I feel when I do it, how it aligns my posture etc.

Also I struggle to feed my kids very well at times. There was just a really good article about that on Mark's blog at http://www.marksdailyapple.com/raising-your-kids-on-primal-foods-plus-mealtime-strategies-for-picky-eaters/#axzz2UJazri8E

I love beer and overdoing endurance exercise. Though I will tend to skip the gluten beer and opt for Strongbow, Crispin, or some other gluten free varieties. But the occasional Guinness does pass thy lips

I think if I could afford to, I would buy a lot of organic produce and also natural beauty products with less harsh chemicals. I also need to get out and get some fresh air sometimes!

Sitting at a desk all day, staring at screens. Dark chocolate after lunch. Wine, but I'm quitting that.
