what is your favourite Paleo Snack?

Answered on August 19, 2014

I find myself eating tons of peanut butter and I can't help but think there has to be a better high fat or high protein snack? Beef Jerky is expensive so thats not an option.

Thanks

Nope I'm not kidding :) Dairy (milk especially) is bad for you, completely unnatural for humans to drink; lactose intolerance exists for a reason. Last time I checked dairy products (which are products of milk) are for the nourishment and growth of young mammals not adult humans - think about that.

Diary is unnatural, weird, and offers no nutrition? Well, maybe the the first two (which thankfully are not determinants of healthiness), but I'm guessing dairy has *some* nutrition for, like, providing nutrition for babies and stuff.

I understand what you are saying many of us are more alike than different - many of us are here for similar reasons. I'm just over-zealous with paleo.

Why is butter "obviously" an exception, when it is made from dairy? And if a food being "weird if you think about it" is a qualification not to eat it, I think most people would think that beef hearts and such are weird and should not be eaten. Additionally, a lot of Primal and PHD folks post here, not just hardline Paleo-ers. While there are differences, I think we're more alike than different, and there is no need to "point fingers" at anyone along the spectrum of ancestral eating.

There should be fingers pointed at people who dairy, milk especially. It is not natural to eat something that is intended for the development of the young of another species, dairy (except butter, obviously!) offers no nutrition and is a completely weird food to eat when you think about what it actually is. And excuse me but last time I checked legumes are strongly discouraged on the paleo diet, being a "zealot" is not a bad thing. I was using the word 'forbidden' because I couldn't think of any other word.

Peanut butter is not paleo! It is a legume, not a nut, hence a post-agricultural food. Almond butter is a healthier option - less lectins.

Peanut butter is NOT Paleo! Peanuts are legumes, not nuts. Choose almond or macadamia or coconut butter, much better options. Other high-fat snacks: olives, bacon, avocados, canned sardines.

I don't know if snacking is good for you in the first place. Are you not eating enough protein/fat at meal times? Why do you find yourself eating peanut butter? I try not to snack. If you are inclined to keep snacking, this might help:

Sardines. Deviled eggs without store mayo (can do with homemade mayo, avocado, sour cream or yogurt if you do dairy). Granny Smith apples with almond or other nut butter of your choice.

To wean myself off snacking I started making huge portions of my meals, then carrying around whatever was left of it that I didn't want to eat just then. When I was hungry again, I ate that. Much more satisfying.

And btw, craving peanut butter is a sign that you aren't getting enough fat ...

It should be repeated - peanut butter is NOT paleo! Peanuts are legumes which are forbidden on the paleo diet. Almond butter is a good alternative.
