Hack my roadtrip!

Hello all! This upcoming weekend I will be going on a road trip with my roommates to visit another college. I know that it's going to be very difficult to be Paleo during this trip because my roommates are so not Paleo eaters! I will definitely be out-voted about eating because my Paleo lifestyle is the small majority in the group. Does anyone have any good suggestions about eating Paleo at fast food places we may stop at or tips for snacks to bring that can tide me over until I find some Paleo food at wherever we end up at? Thank you!

Even convenience store usually sell fruit, nuts and beef jerky. If your travel mates want to stop for fast food you could ask to stop at a grocery store as well to pick up a few things. You can also always throw the bun away on a burger. Will it be grass fed beef? Doubtful but sometimes you just need to work with what you have.

You could also experiment with fasting when the options are less than optimal. Or bring a cooler with HB eggs, veggies, sardines etc.

Depending on how long your roadtrip is, I would say pick your battles. It seems like most people agree that gluten is one of the worst offenders, so avoid that at all costs and then let lesser evils slide, like maybe dairy, or small amounts of sugar.

If you're eating at restaurants, anywhere you can get breakfast (bacon- nitrates being a lesser evil here, eggs, fruit, etc.) or steak dinner, you should be pretty much fine. For in-car snacks, I second the beef jerky.

The easiest way to look at it, I think, is going minimally off paleo, then go right back to eating how you normally do when you're fully in control of what you are eating again.

Hope you have a fun trip!

Agree with juju - and if its not likely you're able to get grass fed, make sure you've got fish oil to ramp up your omega 3 intake. Or how about you make yourself a batch of these to take :)

Look up panera's hidden menu. It's not ideal but pretty amazing for fast food.
