Snacks for work

Answered on August 19, 2014

Good Afternoon,

What are some snacks that fit this lifestyle which can be purchased at walmart and which are ready to eat? I can think of the fruits there, but since I am in the initial stage and I need to lose a few pounds, I want to limit the fruits for now.

Thanks.

Yes, I need to lose weight. I knew about the fruits because of their sugar content, but can you elaborate a bit more as to why nuts are a problem if one wants to lose weight?

I can see my peers giving me funny looks for snacking on such things.

We have a super walmart, they sell pretty much everything. Canned tuna is there! Nuts are there too. Thanks.

Wow, plantain chips are paleo? I love those! Will the salt be a concern there?

Thank you. I am barely starting, so I am learning to eat until I am full and not by measurements. I just experienced what you said the other day. Ate some pork chops and avocado with a serving of mixed vegetables for breakfast and that took me all the way to lunch.

How much snacking do you do? What kinds of foods do you typically eat? You may find that if you're eating a good breakfast and lunch with enough satiating fat and protein, you won't need snacks.

What has amazed me, moving to a high fat diet, is that I don't need to have snacks. I think it is better if you can eat enough at meals not to need snacks. If you do need snacks then stick to things like raw veg. If you want to lose weight don't eat any fruit nor any dried fruit nor any nuts for now.

I've seen hard-boiled eggs at Wal-Mart- HB eggs are my go-to emergency snack. You could also get jerky and prepped veggies ready to eat. Also, a sweet potato in the microwave for 4-5 minutes is awesome and filling.

You can see if there's any beef/turkey/pork/bacon jerkey that has no added yucky ingredients...nuts are also a good option, but be careful because it's easy to eat too many (tell me about it), or you could always try fresh vegetables

As an alternatvie you could try a subscription service for convenience and have it delivered to your office. There are a few organic snack foods services which is an option. However, there is a Paleo specific service that promises to send a collection of Paleo snacks each month - www.HuntGatherSnack.com

Nuts are great - almonds, walnuts and so on. Easy to find, lots of fat and vitamins, and no weird looks from your colleagues for eating meat or eggs as a snack :)

nut butters would be good or just nuts/seeds. dried fruits have a ton of carbs so watch out for those. walmart might have canned tuna but i'm not sure. my walmart is pretty ghetto so I would never buy food there.

At my local walmart I can find larabars, nuts (watch out, some nuts there have wheat starch), fruit as you mentioned, baby carrots, plantain chips, plain pork rinds, sunflower seeds, and dark chocolate. You could even buy coconut milk and just pour it in a thermos to sip on.

I like buying their guacamole and eating that out of the tray with a spoon. I'm weird though. Maybe buy it and dip some carrot sticks in it.
