We all know by now that sleep induced by a late night drink impairs it's restorative effects; but have there been any studies carried out as to the effects on sleep from "natural" sleep aids such as valerian, or over the counter products like Nytol or Kalms?

I've taken valerian before and it is, IMHO, the best "natural" sleep aid around.
I wouldn't recommend it as a nightly, or even semi-nightly thing, however, as it can leave you groggy, but it is a great help on those nights where you are amped up and facing the possibility of staring at the insides of your eyelids for hours on end.
