Is anyone else using resistant starch as a sleep hack?

I was casually reading random PH questions and answers and started following a resistant starch thread that was up here recently. The main point was that resistant starch is a prebiotic that keeps blood sugar levels down and that this has helped some lose weight and have better poop, but as I read comments on different Paleo blogs (In particular Free the Animal) I noticed many people reporting much improved sleep and vivid dreams.

It has only been two nights, but I can report the same. Usually, I sleep for about four hours than have to get up to pee. Then I sleep for another 3-4 hours. Pre-PH, when I didn't know about magnesium supplementation helping sleep, I would often lie awake for awhile before falling back to sleep. The past two nights, after taking 2 tablespoons of potato starch in water after dinner, I have slept 7 hours straight, then fallen back for another 1.5 hours. And my dreams were incredible. I know 2 nights is a very small data set, but I plan to keep trying it and wondered if anyone else is taking resistant starch (Free the Animal has a lengthy discussion about why potato starch is the one to use) and if you have noticed any changes in your sleep.

hi @tbunchylulu, can you post up the link to the particular f-t-a discussion you mention. the RS/PS hack has not improved/changed my sleep at all. so i would be interested to hear similar stories & if they were able to tweak the hack so that their sleep did improve. thx

I don't each much starch as I'm pretty sure I have mild SIBO (Starch gives me gas) but when I do eat it, I sleep like a baby. I start to doze off soon as my head hits the pillow. I know that VLC over a long time (3-4 weeks) and I start to run into trouble. I still try to avoid starch, but I'll make sure I'm getting some carbs from fruit for sugars like honey and grade B maypole syrup.

Another sleep hack is Coral Calcium and Magnesium. I take them before sleeping and then have a good deep sleep with crazy dreams. I get Coral Calcium for here: (they mix it with magnesium) http://www.wellnessresources.com/products/coral_calcium.php

Yes I have noticed the same affect, vivid dreams and longer sleeping. I have also noticed a better mood and mental clarity. (And gas)
