Answered on August 19, 2014

My entire life I've had very bad skin around my finger cuticles. They peel and crack and just painful. I don't bite my finger nails. But I have the nail biter problems with the skin around them. I've tried almost everything. Even seen the doctors and a dermatologist who say don't bite your nails. I tell them I never have. They are then confused. I'm also a 36 yr old male.. help please

There's another book he wrote that is very scientific. Lots of slide pics from under the microscope of our blood, etc. It is called "Sick and Tired?" by Robert O. Young. Vegetarian never did it for me either, except when I did the above. Living vegetarian after healing did not feel right. I feel I need my meat and bone broths, etc. I wonder if "The Perfect Diet" by husband and wife scientists Paul and Shou-Ching Jaminet addresses it? I haven't read it yet. They are scientists, as is Dr. Robert O. Young. His degree is in microbiology, I believe, and has done his research on human cells

I'm a low carb eater. Was a high carb eater...clean carb..fruits and veggies. It was completely messing me up I will never eat vegetarian. Anyways. I use to drink 12 pots a day when I was in the service. Now I'm down to about 8 cups. I'm drinking 48 oz of water and tea. Some point I'll have people hack my diet for weight loss. I'm a bit of a couch potato. but calories in calories out thermal dynamics. I will read that book but I'm more interested on gut flora healing with true scientific backing and not biased specific tendencies toward a specific way of eating

I am glad you are upping the water and hopefully diminishing the amount of coffee. I love coffee, too, yet it is acidic. Can't imagine what 12 cups a day can do. I would recommend "The Ph Miracle" by Robert O. Young available on www.phlivingmiracle.com for a gut cleanse. It is a paperback. He does believe in vegetarian eating, yet I think to heal, you can follow the info and use it for how long it takes to heal and then work in paleo foods. I will be very interested to see if this works for you, too, should you choose to try it.

? Not sure if I follow. This is something I've had most of my life. I'm allergic to nothing. Including gluten, dairy bla bla that cause people to go paleo. I went to clean up my diet. All its done stress me out, gain weight, over eat, and hasn't clean stuff up like, bloating , cracked finger cuticles. Etc. But thankyou for your ideas. Didn't mean to vent

I like the thinking of gut flora problems. Which I might think I have. Would explain a lot like no weight lost in 6 months although I'm eating 1600 calorie. That's 200 under my bmr. I'm starting to eat more Greek yogurt. I won't buy anyone's weight loss magic. If I can't solve it with real food then I'm just doomed.

The Vaseline was used to simply to keep fingers from catching on things. Or from me rubbing them raw. Because the skin cracks and hurts

I agree with Fonda; using any soaps/hand sanitizers that contain alcohol really mess up my hands. My dermatologist has forbid me from using these products.

also, you should look into the chemicals you are putting on your hands. mainly the soaps you wash with. Try for natural simple soaps.. like castile. Also, things like shampoo/bodywash - try a cleaner version..

I would not think that vaseline would moisturize. Have you tried coconut oil?

Bicarb to wash the dishes, gloveless. Castille soap. Other pure fragrance free shampoo etc. Coconut oil on hands & wear cotton gloves overnight. No vaseline petrochemicals. Use lanolin for nursing mothers to protect the skin. And do an elimination diet like the above to sort out any reactive foods. Go for like 6 plain foods then add in. Look up how to do it properly.

I don't think it's a moisture problem. Skin is a direct correlation to gut fauna. I used to have a peeling in the inside of my palms. Ir would get to the point of itching and bleeding. I gave up natural peanut butter (high fungus) and all grains (gluten) and my skin healed. I actually went on an all green juice ten day fast, then introduced foods one by one, starting with veggie soups in bone broths and working up to a full paleo diet. I have never had a skin problem since then. I probably helped lotion companies stay in business trying to fix it from the outside. Tried every topical remedy. The doctor even gave me steroid creme for it. Nothing helped. Changing my diet did. I do liver and kidney flushes from herbdoc.com . I use his formula 1 and formula 2 for a bowel cleanse and I use phmiracleliving.com phour salts (one scoop to each 1 liter of distilled or ph water) and alternate phour salts with chlorophyll drops and puriphy drops together (one dropperful of chlorophyll and 5 drops of puriphy per 1 liter distilled or ph water). When I was doing my juice cleanse, I drank variations and combinations of cucumber, celery, spinach, kale, cilantro (which removes heavy metals) parsley, watercress, jalepenos, mint leaves, whole lemon and limes through the juicer, and whatever else green I could get. No fruit. Unless you absolutely have to start with fruit in which yellow grapefruit would be acceptable but preferable to skip. I drank a gallon or more a day. I also drank the above mentioned waters. I drink about 2 of the chlorophyll and four of the salts per day. (6 liters). I do this on the fast and also in my daily paleo eating. When I introduced foods back in my diet, I did it in three day increments. The veggies that I added to the broths were the same veggies I was juicing in combinations so I did not worry about them. Most people are not allergic to green veggies. I eat a normal paleo diet now and do juice cleanses about twice a year. Hope this helps. Oh, I also like the supplements that Dr. Robert O. Young talks about in his "Ph Miracle Book" on the website. He is a veggie guy. I use all of his veggie knowledge in my paleo food plan. I also believe that sometimes we have to stop eating for a while to heal our bodies. ten days is a safe amount of time to juice without eating. Anything longer than that, I would talk to a doctor who does juice fasts for healing purposes.

You probably need to do a better job at keeping them consistently moisturized. I have eczema on my fingers and they get dry easily and also crack and bleed, especially now during the winter season. I love Trader Joe's shea butter hand cream. It's small and convenient and it keeps my hands moisturized without feeling greasy.

I keep mine in check using Egyptian Magic. http://www.egyptianmagic.com/ingredients.html

Lanolin works, too, but I started having a reaction to it. I'm hoping it's just the pregnancy hormones and I can go back to using it. It's far cheaper than Egyptian Magic!

I wear gloves when doing dishes or using cleaning products. I also pick at my cuticles when they get dry, so I have to be super mindful of what I am doing with my hands. I don't bite my nails, but will catch myself chewing on my cuticles when I'm deep in thought or stressed. Ugly habit, but keeping the Egyptian Magic on my hands helps mitigate it.
