Loose Skin - Not Tied to Weight-loss

I stopped losing weight back in Oct and I've been stable since. I have however noticed that while on Paleo (since lat May) my skin seems a little loose. Is this common?

It's all over my body and in areas where my body didn't change much (forearm, lower leg). It's not sagging off of me but it's pretty easy to pinch it and pull it away from the muscle.

Just curious.

I'm 6'4" and I went from 230 down to 185 and most of it was belly weight.

okay, so you said it's not tied to weight loss but you did lose weight so I still go with my answer :)

Activity levels have increased since I started paleo but I don't believe that my intake has changed (total calories). Bloat may be an issue. I drink a ton of water. I'll experiment with less over the next couple of days.

If you lost weight, stretchy skin is normal. I have a friend who lost tons of weight and had it removed. Another friend took about two years for her skin to "go back to normal" after her weight loss. Sometimes it never does.

Can you pinch more than 2-4 millimeters of thickness? If so, it's not just lose skin (i.e. likely an amount of extra epidermal adipose tissue).

If I were you, I would ask myself, since my changes:

  • Has my activity level changed?
  • Has my total intake changed?

If you are eating slightly more than you "should be" to remain optimal, you make notice changes like these over longer periods of time.

It also sounds like it may be bloat / water retention, but I have less to say about that topic. ;-)
