Are you jealous of my awesome friends? $300 to spend at U.S. Wellness.

I already know it's true that I have the best, smartest and most beautiful friends in the world, so no hate!

My family and I are going through a hard time, and have been getting our food from a food pantry (luckily a paleo friend of mine is the nutritional coordinator, so she helps me get great stuff, but....it's still a food pantry with limited resources) and are getting ready for food stamps. We have mostly gone through our basement freezer that had been full of meat from shares we bought in some pastured animals last year, and I bartered with some farmer friends for some more meat that is just about gone now, too. Our vegetable CSA is ending this week.

Today I opened the mail and found that some friends of mine pooled resources and got me a $300 gift certificate to U.S.Wellness meats. I have never bought anything from there before and the site is overwhelming! So much amazing stuff! Where do I start? I need to stretch the money as far as I can, and feed a family of four fairly non-adventurous eaters (we prolly won't eat kidneys and hearts). I already have a huge bag of leaf lard from a pastured pig that a friend gave me, so I'm all set for fats, and I have a few gallons of beef/veal and chicken foot stock frozen, so I don;t need bones.

Help me go on a shopping spree? What should I have in my cart and my freezer?

Obviously you are as awesome as your friends or you would not have received such a deserving gift!

I wish I hadn't been shopping while everyone was answering! Totally go for packages if they have them. But since they have a lot of offal, bones and fish (which I assume you can get pretty easy-ish) I went a la cart. I am still terribly excited about this. All I can think are winter stews, osso buco, shanks.

Definitely get the bundles if you have the freezer space! They have roast and steak bundles - the roast bundles tend to be the best value and are nice to prepare and have leftovers from. They also post new weekly specials on Saturday at midnight, and this coming week they will have an additional 15% discount code (I inquired because they didn't have the usual discount in last Saturday's email) - so I would sign up for their newsletter to get the code and get more bang for your buck!

I shopped like I had that to spend! I like thge idea of getting some healthy wieners - my kids love them. Also the Kerrygold butter is a good price in my opinion. I'd go with stew and brisket since that's the season. Also lamb lamb lamb.

I will just say that their 75% lean ground beef and hamburger patties are a staple around here! The roasts are great too.

What wonderful friends! To make the most of this blessing, I would suggest buying the 75% ground beef in bulk (lower cost, higher fat and more flavor- all the good stuff vs the 85%). Minute steaks are a good value and easy to marinate. The Large Top Sirloin is on the leaner side, but similar to the Ribeye or NY Strip at a much lower cost. Roasts and the stew beef are great this time of year and a good buy. You might want to check out the whole primals as well. My family loves the beef bologna and definitely try the snack sticks that Dan mentioned. Our other favorites are the beef franks, flank steaks and shredded beef. Waiting for Sunday's discount code is worth it- just remember to keep your order under 40 pounds if you want to use a promo code. With $300, you should be able to create a few orders. Enjoy your shopping spree and cheers to your awesome friends!

On of my favorites is the beef sticks. I call them my candy bars.

Beef Snack Sticks Nitrate and MSG Free Grass-fed beef snack sticks (minus nitrates, gluten, high fructose corn syrup and MSG) generates stellar nutrition for young and old alike. Our Snack Sticks are always a big hit at trade shows and conventions!
