Paleo diet/lifestyle and sex drive

Do you notice a qualitative or quantitative difference in your sex drive since going paleo?

I have been eating mainly paleo for a couple of months and did notice an increased sex drive.

I assume it has to do with the increase in saturated fat (necessary to synthesize testosterone), decreased inflammation and better blood circulation from fish oil etc., as well as increased consumption of zinc and arginine from meat and nuts.

I haven't added resistance training to my regimen yet, does it make a noticeable difference?

David C- Perhaps because it mirrors the experience of others who are unwilling to post in the 'first person". :)

imo it's because of the body recomp...lower BF, more muscle. Lower BF is supposed to reduce "bad" hormones & increase the effectiveness of "good" hormones. Just my 2 ¢.

Ha Ha. I have a friend who has seen the same increment in his sex drive after continuing paleo diet recipes. After hearing that I was just laughing and laughing. You post just recalled me that memory in my mind :P

It does seem from these posts that women may consistently get a stronger sex drive boost from Paleo than men do... though losing fat and getting stronger presumably helps men feel more confident, more attractive etc.

Interesting take. Of course, the psychological aspect and teh confidence boost are an important aspect, too.

Ahahah, yeah, as Mark Sisson would put it, "looking good naked" is one of the awesome advantages of a paleo lifestyle.

I started with a more strenuous exercise program first, around 5 months ago (CrossFit). I noticed an increase in energy and stamina within a month, which I attribute to primarily an increase in physical strength. So - that was a plus.

I gradually began a quality of food change during this time.

A few months in, I really started to feel a subtle change in my testosterone, nothing scientific, I just felt more "manly" if I can say something so ridiculous. My body composition was certainly shifting from skinny fat guy to a guy starting to show muscle definition. The appearance change helped my confidence and increased attraction levels I think.

In the last month or so, I've made a more dramatic attempt to dial in my dietary allowances, to something much more strict paleo-wise (on an average daily basis).

In general, I just feel "awesome" all the time. I can't explain it any other way. Because of that, bedroom activities at home have gone from "meh" to "wow".

It's good that people are experiencing this and might be a good way promote the paleo-way.

It makes me angry that the pharmaceutical industry recently tried to label something like 30% of women as being sexually dysfunctional and prescribing viagra and other pills as the cure.

How about being healthy and living a healthy life-style? Oh wait, you can do that for free.

Coming from a state of severe metabolic derangement in which I had absolutely NO interest in sex, I can honestly say that after just three weeks of Paleo I had the sex drive a woman in her prime is supposed to have. And this was without any kind of exercise program so in my case it had nothing to do with a change in my level of confidence. I think Diane hit it on the head when she mentioned a re-balancing of hormones.

I think it's primarily the re-balancing of hormones in our bodies as a result of the better balance of food intake & sleep as well as looking better naked leading to increased confidence that causes this. Either way, it's legit.

I've always had a strong sex drive, so no real change there. Though, to paraphrase David, the activities themselves have definitely improved. And as Bertrand commented, part of that is psychological... both on my part with increased confidence, etc, and on her part be it increased interest in the thinner me or, more likely, a desire on her part to match the changes I've experienced.

I have become super duper frisky since going Paleo-ish. I don't know if it's coincidental to feeling better or if it's actually attributed to the food; but my sex drive prior was pretty mediocre, so this new revelation is a great thing for my marriage! Did I just write this online for all to see?? oops

It's gone further than that for me. I think eating more red meat and doing the related exercises is giving me cannibalistic appetites; If I see an attractive woman now... Help! :)

1. Try to maintain good level of Libido. Libido is driven by brain.

2. Concentrate on protein. Protein contains amino acids like histidine, tyrosine that helps in increasing sex drive.

3. Weight lifting also helps in increasing anabolic hormones and they do affect your sex drive.

Before I began my training regime and eating Paleo, I was worried I suffered from low t. Withing a few months, my partner and I noticed the increased libido, not to mention the added energy and stamina

Ive tried paleo once

right now for the second time, primal, this time. 30min walks a day and primal blueprint fitness combined with convict conditioning, twice a week. Im in day 11, lost 5kg and feel good. My sleep is a bit worse, but that might be because its too hot here in southern brazil, and stress over medical specialization.

But my libido has changed. It wasnt bad before, But now I feel like Im always in the mood, my girlfriend is always saying "again?", so it feels good, but sometimes its a bit too much. I think its going to settle a bit after my body gets used to it, probably an increase in testosterone for eating fat, exercising and sunlight.

For me, a combination of fixing thyroid levels (which started me on the road to paleo in the first place), plus eating paleo, plus a little bit of bodyweight training has transformed my libido. I've gone from having sex once every few months to several times a week and multiple "intervals" within each session. 39 going on 20 again...

Many report an upswing in their sex drive after converting to a paleo diet. Lifting will increase testosterone production and therefore stands to increase libido as well.

I am 22 and ever since I started having sex, I realized I just wasn't obsessed with it like other guys my age. It got worse as I got older. The past year or so, I realized it was because I have a low sex drive. I've been eating paleo for around 3 months and over the past couple weeks, I think about sex a lot more and definitely want it more. Unfortunately, I still don't care enough to try to go out and score, though.

I'm a single woman of 44. I've been on a paleo diet for a full year now, after being a cafeteria nutritionist for my entire life...trying a little of this, a little of that...

I've always had what I felt was a fulfilling and normal sex drive, but a few months after subsisting on animal fats and meats, my sex drive skyrocketed. I think about sex much more often, feel the heat move through my body.

I feel sexier myself, feel that my body looks great naked, with just the right amount of curves in all the right places.

My only problem? I don't have a partner!
