I know you guys aren't doctors, but there seem to be many people on here that are very knowledgeable about the benefits of Paleo.
I'm a 25 year old female at a healthy weight (120 lbs, 5'5") and I believe there's something irregular going on with my hormones. Before I started taking the birth control pill, my sex drive was normal, sex was pleasurable, I had adequate lubrication, etc. I began to take a low-dose birth control pill when I was 20 and almost immediately started having problems. It made me very emotional - I was either furious, sobbing, or very anxious, there wasn't really any middle ground. I had no sex drive to speak of, I didn't want my husband to touch me, sex was impossibly painful, and I had difficulty reaching orgasm. I also had constant pain in my lower legs. I know none of these symptoms are uncommon of birth control pills. I took 4 different types of pills over the course of about a year, then stopped altogether. What was the point in taking them if I didn't want my husband to even look at me?
The part I feel is atypical is that although it's been 4 years since I stopped taking the pill, I still have all of the same sexual side effects from when I was on it. I am unable to have penetrative sex, use tampons or the Diva Cup or have a pelvic exam. Well, the exam part the doctors just force, I always cry and am in pain for days. I avoid them as much as I can. It seems that my hormones didn't come back on their own like they were supposed to when I stopped the pill. My doctors haven't been very helpful, they've all just said that sex can occasionally be painful and that I should use lube. My periods are regular and fairly uneventful.
Do any other paleo women have any experience with this? Or any ideas? I don't want to have movie star sex, just maybe regular people sex every once in a while, you know? I am more primal than paleo I guess - I do eat dairy. My diet is typically at least 50% fat, I eat until I'm full, usually around 1500 calories a day. Should I go stricter Paleo? Or make sure there's enough of a specific nutrient I'm getting? I'm not opposed to medical intervention, but I don't know what to even ask for, since all this is apparently "normal".
