Is seaweed considered paleo?

I know Fukishima is giving people a bad taste in their mouth about sea weed, but I know there are other non radioactive places to get it. My question is if seaweed is considered in the paleo regiment?

I like the idea of Maine Kelp because it's from the Atlantic coast - North Atlantic - which has got to be pretty clean.

Yeah ... "made from" is not the correct phrasing there. ;-) Carageenan is a processed single portion of the seaweed whole. This is similar to how xanthan gum, for e.g., isn't "probiotic" even though it's "made from" bacterium.

And yet, carageenan, made from seaweed, is not.

Yes, it's considered paleo; pretty much no question about it: it's a "sea vegetable."

However, your concerns are valid - like all food, I would be concerned from where seaweed is sourced.

But what if the seaweed is made with expeller pressed canola oil? Per 5g serving the label says there's 2g of fat.

I thought canola oil is not paleo because it's a grain. What about if the seaweed is made with grapeseed oil. Does it then become OK?

Look for Maine Kelp - delicious in soups - not so good for sushi
