Last week my brother told me that at his high school the administration considers pizza a vegetable. I guess if you consider chicken fried cardboard a steak... pizza could be a vegetable.. WTF?

Am I crazy or is this happening in your local schools too?

What Nance said. And anyways, it's not that pizza is a vegetable, it's that the amount of tomato paste in a serving qualifies as a serving of vegetable (per Congress).

You're not crazy but this is a political question and off-topic for PH.

Just more liberal spin on the news to try and push more and more of the nanny state into our lives. The Obama administration passed some regulations pushing vegetables and demonizing fats, but Congress blocked this particular part of it by declared that tomato paste counts as a vegetable serving, making pizza acceptable to serve in school lunches. The media then spins it the issue by claiming that Congress declared pizza to be a vegetable. Just your typical caricature fallacy.

This sounds like it's based off the (mistaken) report a couple months back of Congress declaring pizza a vegetable. We never bothered to check things out because of how much faith we have in our politicians :-/ In reality, an agriculture appropriations bill was trying to get >pizza sauce< counted as a serving of vegetables:
