Salad rut! I need some fun salad variations and combinations please!

Answered on August 19, 2014

Getting very tired of my "usual" salad. Even when I am in the mood for something different somehow I always end up with a bowl full of greens, tomatoes, carrots, mushrooms, cheddar cheese and chicken. Good, yes. But I need some different combinations or else I'm going to get very tired of this. I love salad but the same thing all the time gets boring no matter how much I like it.

You could also use coconut aminos if you want to avoid all soy 100%...they taste the same although they are a little pricier.

I love this one too. Post workout especially. I happen to like sardines and the good ones packed in olive oil really ring the bell for me. I know lots of people don't do sardines, but if you do, you might want to try it. Very Mediterranean!

Add roasted vegetables!

My favorite is sweet potato, and red pepper is a close second.

Just cut up veggies, toss with a little olive oil, stick it under the grill in the oven. Don't let it burn.

I've done cauliflower, onion, potato, zucchini, green beans... grill whatever veggie turns you on.

I mix in cut up fruits such as apples, strawberries marinated in balsamic vinegar, peeled and sliced oranges. Also steamed veggies such as asparagus are nice. Vary the lettuce assortment: use romaine for southwest style salad and spring mix or herb salad mix for steak or lamb salads (leftover meat from dinner, sliced). Sometimes i omit the lettuce altogether and do a cucumber/ mint/ dill/ lamb or steak salad. Hope that helps.

Delish Summery Thai inspired salad

chicken (2 breasts sliced into strips )- then grilled

portobelo mushrooms .. 1- 2 sliced and marinated

1/2 cup to 3/4 cup red pepper- julienned

1/2-3/4 cup carrots cut on bias

1/2 - 3/4 cup green onions (finely chopped)

cilantro as much as you like :) the more the better

Chopped cashews for crunchy garnish

Dressing for salad and Marinade for Chicken

1 tbsp. chopped fresh ginger

1 tsp mustard

finely chopped cilantro- around 1/3 cup

1/4 cup rice vinegar

1 tsp of sesame oil

1 tbsp tamari

1 tsp fish sauce

1/2- 3/4 cup olive oil

1 tbsp lime juice

1 tbsp orange juice

1 tbsp of honey

crushed chilis (to taste)

sea salt (to taste)

mix this up adjusting until it tastes perfectly yummy to you :)

pour about 1/2 of dressing on the chicken and mushrooms (reserving the rest for the salad)and let it marinade for a while. Grill chicken and mushrooms. Toss together the cabbage, veggies, with grilled chicken and mushrooms. Drizzle with the remaining dressing and garnish with more chopped cilantro and crushed cashews. YUM :)

My FAVORITE SALAD: Nicoise Salad - Jut like Parksthis1!!!

*Tuna (My favorite is ventresca tuna, AKA: Tuna Belly) *Green Beans *Hard Boiled Eggs *Butter Lettuce *Capers *Olives

(I tend to like to add sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts and a little red onion as well).

The dressing is simple yet amazing: olive oil, dijon mustard, white wine vinegar!

Salade Nicoise! I was in a huge lunch rut and made these for lunch for a week and was very satisfied! I used cento tuna, rather than tuna steaks.

Different greens? I've gone through a couple pounds of arugula this week, just digging the flavor with a simple Dijon dressing and black pepper.

Lettuce-free salad? Cucumber salads are my favorite. Toss in some tomatoes and red onion, some yogurt, tahini, dill, lemon... Or cucumber salad with poached chicken, green onions, dried cherries with a dressing made from soaked raw almonds blended with olive oil (tastes like Thanksgiving in a salad!)

Russian salad? Base of diced potatoes with veggies and meat and a creamy mayo dressing. Essentially fancy potato salad.

Cooked lettuce? Grilled is tasty!

Salad does get boring. So I only eat it every once in a while. When I do eat it, its simple usually greens, avocados, tomatoes, maybe some nuts for crunch, maybe finely chopped green apples, carrots, and lemon juice squeezed over it to keep it fresh.

Look up Lemon Caesar Salad, there are a few paleo friendly recipes, it's super refreshing, not as heavy as a traditional caesar dressing.

Simple salad, I go coarse chopped kale, sesame oil and lime juice.

Romaine, with cucumber, sliced tomato, onion and bell pepper. Simple olive oil and vinegar dressing. Add feta, olives and cracked pepper and call it greek. Add some Chicken, sliced poblano, jalapeno jack, call it southwestern. Or replace the vinegar with some olive brine, add some italian meats, and olives, and cracked pepper/red pepper an call it well italian semi antipasto.

Spinach leaves, grilled chicken marinated in rosemary, thyme, garlic, mustard and EVOO, avocado, pumpkin seeds. If you want more protein, add some hard-boiled eggs. I've also added cranberries, bacon, or sunflower seeds. Dressing- EVOO & balsamic vinegar

I always toss in some toasted pine nuts...makes a salad a little less boring.

Another salad I always liked was: boston bibb lettuce, red onion, pine nuts (raw), blue cheese and raspberry vinaigrette (you could make the dressing paleo somehow, I'm sure). delicious combo

Here is another salad to try. It is made with raw, shredded brussels sprouts and is amazing. I sub out walnuts for pine nuts.

OK this is a little weird and may not suit your taste.... but Pre-Paleo I was obsessed with Thai peanut sauce and I have made it Paleo-

2 part almond butter

2 part soy sauce (organic wheat free(fermented soy so it is paleo))

1 part honey

Then dilute with water (if you want to) and put on a kale+meat salad... I know this is the weirdest combination but it's good! You might be surprised... :)
