guilt trips people who eat SAD lay on you

So sick of this. I have been paleo for about 2 months now and my health has improved tremendously. I've lost 10 lbs of pure fat, I sleep better, my libido is increased, my mental clarity at work is better. All in all I am a better man now.

I choose not to eat junk anymore, and people in my life seem to be unable to respect that or even agree with it. I hear all the time how i'm 'crazy' for not eating bread and rude for not eating peoples SAD cooking. How do other paleohackers deal with this?

There are plenty of other of the same question here on PH. A quick search will get you tons of answers without starting a new question. Make the search your friend in the future, you won't regret it.

Ha. I have to wonder with all the "paleo drama" people seem to experience if they aren't somehow just creating it. I eat paleo and I haven't had a single person say anything about it. But, then again, I really spend a lot of time talking about it nor make any kind of grand pronouncement out at a dinner or friend's house.

I don't lie - I am gluten intolerant. And I have cross-reactivity to 500 foods. But I can actually use it as an excuse because most processed foods have gluten or something related to gluten. Some people act like a dick are dicks. There is nothing you can do, unless you are a boxing champion. Then you don't have to worry - they will be very careful with you.

Actually I find it "upsetting" you'll lie because otherwise people who act like a dick ironically would call you one. I don't care if someone finds me crazy or rude for not eating junk just because I care for my health.

For people my age: I imagine them in 40 years with diabetes/heart disease/30lbs of extra fat/all kinds of other health problems. Then I feel good and solid enough about my choices that I can just be firm but polite in refusing until they get bored of trying to make me. If you just keep saying no without trying to justify or argue they'll get bored eventually and move on to discussing something else.

For people much older than I am: I don't need to imagine...:(

God, can't we just keep all the "people who don't eat what I do don't understand me" things on ONE thread? There are a million of these on here, and very little usefulness comes out of the humble bragging all up in here.

Many people think I'm crazy when I "binge" on a plate of eggs and bacon while they enjoy their bagel. I smile and order more bacon.

It's very difficult for people to break with conventional wisdom when they've been misinformed about for so long.

Develop better self-esteem.

This will let you care less about what other people think you should put into your body.

Just tell them that you have some very serious medical issue (gluten intolerant and have a cross-sensitivity to 500 different foods) and they will stop. You can say, "My doctor told me I have to stay away from processed foods blah blah blah." Make a joke out of it. Just laugh it off somehow, don't get upset.

Be real with them. It's your body, don't put that shit in your mouth for anyone! The people that are important in your life will totally understand and maybe even start to adopt some of those principles themselves but it will take them time. Set an example and a president. Don't eat the junk!

Just say no thank you, I really can't eat that stuff since it makes me feel crappy, sometimes literally :-) They will probably back off.

Ok, all joking aside, we just have to realize that there will be questions and comments about it. Lots of those comments probably come from people who deep down feel inadequate, or something like that, since they see someone doing something to improve their health, and they have no clue where or how to begin, or no desire to do so. In the end though, everyone will live the life they want to live, we cannot force people to do things they do not want to do, and vice versa, we just need to have mutual respect across the board. Unfortunately, if that respect is not returned to you by others, then maybe those others aren't worth your time????

Not everyone is Paleo and not everyone is SAD, but we can all get along just fine if we realize and respect that.

Just my thoughts.

why cant you just say to them what you just told us? That you feel awesome and losing a lot of weight and don't wanna blow it now? Is the average american really too stupid to understand that you are happier not being overweight lol? Idk. For me I just say I am allergic to wheat, dairy, soy, and corn, which is true, and whatever they are trying to serve me is bound to have one of those things.

Most people on the SAD diet are a lost cause. The fact I've been told that avocado is "fattening" made me realize this, all I did was an epic face palm, there is just no response to something like that. But to answer the question, I mainly get wierd looks like I'm going to drop dead from putting a tablespoon of coconut oil in my cooking, not to mention I get asked "Well what do you eat then?" simply because I said I don't eat grains, I'm just like wtf? Do people not realize there are plenty of other things to eat?

I won't feel guilty just because of people's misinformed comments.
