I love PaleoHacks and answering or helping to answer questions is fun. But sometimes, I can't believe the questions. Do you ever want to just say, "Who cares?"

In hesitantly posing this question, I was not for a moment referring to a sincere request for information from anyone, whatever their level of understanding. I do believe those who share my occasional frustration understand that, and I am a bit surprised that others insist there is nothing posted that makes them wonder about the sincerity of the questioner. I'm with most of you in encouraging all questions and concerns.

We all come to this with different levels of education, familiarity with English, and knowledge of food and nutrition. Cut the world some slack, for christ's sake. The consequence of someone "being stupid" is that the come on here and they LEARN. That's the whole point. Let's not make the Paleo movement more elitist and exclusive than it needs to me. The more the merrier. And healthier.

Look, people are where they are. What's obvious to one person may not be obvious to another. Really. We're all struggling in one way or another. And what someone is asking may not be their real question. They may just be reaching out for a human being that will help them frame the question. (I see that here ALL the time.) What's the harm in being kind (or at the very least not being mean)? You may be the one person who gave them a break that day or week. One thing you tend to forget is that this goes against the grain in SO many ways. (Yes, that was a pun!).

As a new paleohacks user (and as someone who's slightly worried that maybe I'm the cause for at least some of the irritation because, on retrospect, some of my questions have been pretty dumb), I'd like to say that the paleohacks search isn't all that helpful and finding the archives isn't exactly intuitive. I've been on forums where there was a really useful "read this shit before you ask a question" page that answered the most common questions or linked to outside resources (and/or that linked to previously asked questions with very good answers), which might be useful here. Of course, such a page is no guarantee that anyone will read it before asking said stupid/repetitive/trolling questions, but instead of everyone posting a million responses that have been posted before, everyone can just bomb them with links to the FAQ page. The FAQ here is good, but it's more about protocol and tone and scope rather than questions that are frequently asked on the forum, per se.

Of course, Google is usually pretty helpful, and I agree that people should research more before embarrassing themselves with dumb questions. (I'm referring to myself, here.)

That having been said, as someone who's new to paleo and in a pretty rural area, sometimes it's just nice to get feedback from other paleo people. It's kind of like having mentor-cavepeople to show me where the clubs and dinosaurs and stuff are.

Just sayin'.

The questions that include, "Is 'x-food' paleo?" drive me up the wall. Asking that kind of question typically means you know the answer but don't like it. You know what's not paleo? Sitting here asking about it while you drink your bullet-proof coffee in front of a laptop on a couch in a climate controlled house/apartment :)

I usually dont read those questions, as I try not to get annoyed over the interwebs, it seems futile and unhealthy. Doesnt always work, but most of the time it does. Real life is filled with no less naivety, confusion, drama or trivia, so remaining chill is good practice.

On the whole, I think human beings are amusing and strange creatures. Which, when I have a good sense of objectivity, can be a great source for a giggle.

I am also often compelled to ask if they even bothered to do a modicum of research-- I'm all for asking follow up questions, tweaks, and people searching for more details. But some of the questions show that they haven't bothered to even figure out the most basic tenets of this way of eating.

The lip balm question got me. For the love! It is lip balm! You aren't eating it. Hopefully.

Actually you do consume part of the lip balm you apply. Because it's ON YOUR MOUTH. I find it perfectly normal for someone in the Paleo world to turn their mind to the chemicals they apply to their bodies, especially those directly on orifices!

YES! I swear...I think some people are actually jealous they are not living in paleolithic times.Do you not get that every person back then would kill, literally kill, to have our resources?

I'm not so sure they would, actually, if they knew the real costs. (Daniel Quinn FTW!)

Lol I'd love to try a real Paleo lifestyle. But not that far back, I'd be comfortable at the age where domescated animals came into the picture. The Bedouin seem like a good example minus the grain.
