Are these dangerous?: Papaya Enzymes

I've been taking super papaya enzymes plus tablets as of late cause I was told they were the same as digestive enzymes and would help with low stomach acid. I've been using them for a month(3 a day) and have had no problems. The other day I upped my dosages to six when I thought my body was having a difficult time digesting fats and Now I feel like I've almost "Burned" my intestines. My stomach has been acidic and hot for the past 24 hours (It was actually hard to sleep the other night) and I feel like there;s a part of my intestines that's inflamed. Right near my belly button.

Seeing a GI doctor tomorrow. Are these things harmful in large doses? Are they the same type of Enzymes that Robb Wolf talks about?

I think they may be causing me gastritis. This is the only article I could really find on the topic.http://www.livestrong.com/article/348165-papaya-en (I know, not quite legit). I had an upper endoscopy done though and they told me mild irritation of the stomach lining. It went away a few days after that. I stupidly wen't back to taking these and now I have a slight acidic feeling again that I'm sure will pass in a few days. No where near as bad at last time. I also read that these are for digesting proteins. I only eat about 90 grams of protein a day. Not a lot for someone who weights 140.

No, they're not the same as what Robb Wolf talks about. The ones he recommends includes Betaine HCL for low stomach acid, so you've pretty much have done nothing for low stomach acid. You need to listen/read more of his work and how he recommends dosing it.

No, solely digestive enzymes are usually not harmful. I've had more than 6 before with no issues for example (that's just a double dose). They digest dead cells/fats/carbs, not living cells. Doesn't mean you can't have a reaction to them though. However, it's more likely something you ate. Note, this is not the same with the stuff with Betaine HCL. Take too many of those and you'll be regretting it.
