Where to get white rice in UK

Answered on August 19, 2014
Created March 27, 2013 at 3:09 PM

All the supermarkets don't seem to stock it because it's so 'unhealthy', where can I buy some??

So it turns out long grain (that word threw me) rice and basmati rice are white rice. I didn't know that. That's why I asked the question. Sorry if I offended anyone with my stupid, stupid question, I guess I should have just known this stuff already, just like I should know absolutely everything about food, why ask questions??? every one knows everything right?? right???

Buy sushi rice. It is more expensive, but it tastes better and it is sticky (I love sticky rice).

The first result on amazon when I search for white rice is Nishiki premium rice, it's not long grain or basmati. I'm keeping my -1 as punishment for you not 'knowing everything', lol, but mainly for not asking a store clerk since it appears you went to several stores looking for it.

Right, but I didn't know that long grain rice and basmati rice are white rice, do you see that? that is why people ask questions because they dont know the answer, I'm not chinese so I don't know every single thing about rice, you'll have to forgive me

I'm down voting too because your question makes no sense after reading all the answers and comments. Long grain rice and basmati rice are white rice. I'm Chinese and long grain rice is all I grew up eating. This is like saying "I can't find any diet soda! I found Coke Zero and Pepsi Light, but no diet soda!"

It's just marketing, they don't sell anything called just "white rice", they put a slant on it to make it sound ... good value, or some special kind, or whatever. So just buy basics or basmati (I have basmati just now).

brown rice is rice that has had the chaff or outer husk removed. white rice has had the bran and the germ removed, leaving the white grain. more details here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice

long grain & basmati are types of white rice. i think we may have a slight misunderstanding here. you can get brown long grain & brown basmati, but you are much more likely to get the white stuff.

I down voted and voted to close. I did so before I even noticed your username. Like, every single store that sells food sells rice in America and amazon sells rice in bulk where you can subscribe and save. Considering you life in a first world nation this question seems ludicrous and definitely feels like spam. The only reason I'd grant this might not be Sam is because you have over 5k reputation points. Otherwise I'd say this was trolling for sure..

Buy sushi rice. It is more expensive, but tasty and it clumps together.

Yeah, it sure seems weird not being able to find white rice... even though I up-voted to counter-act the down-vote as it is a legit question in the end.

I dunno, but seriously? Can't find white rice? The most common food in the world? Look harder.

So there is no white rice in the whole of the U.K.? What is next to go? Fish and chips? Marmite?

If youre struggling (and you shouldn't be, its in every supermarket, there should be a whole aisle dedicated to every type of rice you could want!) try the Asian shops, you can probably buy a sackful. Plus the small Asian supermarkets often have much better fruit and veg than the big supermarkets :)
