Elevation burger - Paleo fast food?

Answered on August 19, 2014

This place is a few min from where I live now after I moved. Anyone else have this place nearby and what do you think of it? The beef is grass-fed and ground daily. I usually order an elevation burger (2 patties) in a lettuce wrap with raw onion, jalepenos, tomatoes, and mustard. I ask for the patty to be cooked on a separate grill than the buns so it's gluten free. If I'm with my daughter I'll order french fries - ingredients are all Paleo but the high temp cooking all day certainly is not. Potatoes aren't all that great either. They use olive oil for cooking but I don't think it's organic. What do you all think? Seems better than a lot of places but it's also fast food...

Took me a while, but I went back to Tysons, I asked about the oil and the manager was a bit rude to me and said, "It's olive oil". One of the line cooks brought the jar around and it was 100% extra light olive oil -- So Mike T is definitely right. I will say though, the last time I was there it was cans of olive oil this time it was bottles -- so they may have switched. Either way, best burger I have had in a while!

Not all stores have the oil cans on display, but they all should be using the exact same oil (especially Tyson's since that is a corporate-owned store).

I haven't been over there. Tyson's from late october through jan is off limits. I went to one at national harbor and they had the olive oil, 100%, in a green can. Tyson's did not have theirs in a green can.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I just spoke with corporate. The olive oil Elevation Burger uses in all of its locations is Bertolli Classico (hard spec with no deviations). The Bertolli containers are even on display in some locations. It is not a blend. It is 100% olive oil. The smoke point (per Bertolli) is 460 F. You can see in much of Elevation Burger's marketing the claim of 100% olive oil. Using a blended oil would invalidate that claim which would be a big deal. He assured me Tyson's Corner is using this oil.

Are you absolutely sure it was an Elevation Burger? I just spoke with someone who owns 2 Elevation Burger locations, and he said it is 100% olive oil, not a blend. Tyson's Corner is a corporate location, so I will ask corporate about it, but I can't imagine it's true unless there was some mistake when they ordered their oil, but even that seems very unlikely.

hmm maybe I'll ask. I was discussing the GF grill with one of the workers and he said he brings his father to eat there who is celiac so I suspect they take it seriously. Austin is pretty GF friendly in general. Where is TysoNs?

TysoNs and about three weeks. I was more concerned that they were using an oil that breaks down at 220 and has a smoke point of 325 to deep fry at 350. Please don't get me wrong, I frequent elevation burger, and I think it is as good as fast food gets!

How do you know that about the olive oil? I do not believe it's true, but can do some research. Also, most of the time, most locations just use one of the griddles which means the other usually would be clean of anything.

Not to mention the organic bacon and the 6-month aged unprocessed cheddar. The lettuce wrap holds up better than any other I've had. You can eat it like a burger rather than with a knife and fork. I am biased, as I'm a franchisee, but I think the place is awesome. Best paleo option for restaurant I've found - especially at this price point.

Here in NYC there is a burger chain called Bareburger that serves all grassfed organic beef, plus other organic meats like ostrich, boar, etc, and all toppings and buns are organic. They also offer a lettuce wrap which is amazing, or you can get your burger on a salad. Love that places like this are cropping up, and everything is so tasty. Plus organic grassfed milkshakes for the occasional splurge. Oil and potatoes are organic for the fries, but probably a high PUFA oil.

FYI, they do not use oive oil they use an olive oil blend 20% or less of cold pressed olive oil the rest is vegetable oil blend which usually includes some soybean oil.

Also, none of the grills are bun free, mthey just tell you that to appease you.

That being said, one of the better places to get "fast food". I just wish they had a decent iced tea -- cinnamon orange?
