How long should I wait before i start running again after getting wisdom tooth removed?

I recently had a wisdom tooth removed, and since I haven't been doing my usual daily 4-mile runs because I'm worried the pounding might irritate the where the tooth was. Instead of running I've been doing power walking and elliptical trainer, in addition to weight training and pilates. Fortunately the wisdom tooth hole seems to be healing well and I'm not chipmunk faced, but I want to start running again ASAP and I don't want to make it worse. How long should I wait before I start running again?

Ask your dentist or oral surgeon! I would say a week minimum, but that's without knowing your particular case. Depending on the type of anesthesia used or whether not the teeth were impacted, for example, can complicate the situation. ( I am a dental professional.)

IMO, I would wait atleast a week. If that tissue of blood inside the wisdom teeth lodges out... Your in a world of pain my friend... and to better quote Walter:

Walter Sobchak: [pulls out a gun] Smokey, my friend, you are entering a world of pain.

The Dude: Walter...

Walter Sobchak: You mark that frame an 8, and you're entering a world of pain.

Smokey: I'm not...

Walter Sobchak: A world of pain.

..... Just go run. If it hurts, stop.

I've run same day as root canals, etc. When I had 3 wisdom teeth removed at once it really messed me up though. Wait till you're off any pain medication and you should be fine. You want to be fully aware of any discomfort or other signals from your body. Focus on running gently if you're worried. If running is 'pounding' for you, now is an opportunity to slow down and work on that.
