which are better - Japanese sweet potatoes or purple sweet potatoes?

Since they are both purple on the outside, I thought they were the same thing, but while looking up recipes, it appears Japanese sweet potatoes are white on the inside, while purple sweet potatoes are dark purple inside and out.

Which contain more nutrients? Are they basically interchangeable in recipes? And which do you think I should serve at Thanksgiving? Thanks!

I think the purple flesh ones taste more like yams, while the white flesh ones are much sweeter and drier. I would serve the purple ones as a side dish. The white ones are good as a snack on their own.

Okinawan Sweet Potatoes is my favorite, but they can be dry. I like to microwave partially and then pan fry in coconut oil.

On Thanksgiving, go for taste. Japanese are better tasting IMHO. Other days, it depends. If you think the extra anthocyanins are good for you, go for the purple/purple ones.
