Eating more Raw foods?

Answered on August 19, 2014

Im looking for some suggestions to eat more raw paleo foods please.

At the mo the only raw foods im eating are avocados, salad leafs, olives, unpasturized cheese, sauerkraut/kimchi, aaand thats pretty much it.

I do like the warmth of a cooked meal & of course it makes sense to kill of the nasties, there is absolutely nothing like warm bone broth/veggie soup, but i do feel good when i eat raw foods, they taste fresher & generally seem to digest easier, i feel lighter when eating them.

I really like the idea of eating raw fish but it seems complicated to source truly fresh fish, and salmon you have to freeze first to kill parasites. Maybe im the one complicating it but it doesn't seem simple like buy some fish & eat it. I have my beef & lamb rare apart from when its done in the crockpot.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, all welcome.

That's awesome. I wonder, as long as the fish is small enough to swallow, would the bones be digestible?

My store bought steak is grass-fed from the local health food store(they buy from Slanker's). When they thaw there is insignificant/no smell so I imagine they were frozen when they were very fresh. Supermarket meat may very well require some cooking to be safe, but opinions differ. Some even advocate eating spoiled meat for the health benefits but I am not yet convinced myself. Try at your own risk or freeze the meat for a couple weeks or so.

Cooked carrots will provide more calories but I don't eat them for the nutrition. I eat them because raw carrots are antimicrobial and, subsequently, one of the only fibers I can tolerate. Other fibers ferment and cause gas and constipation for me. If you tolerate cooked carrots then it's probably fine for you to eat them that way. If you eat raw carrots should probably eat them away from meals so that the carrot fiber doesn't bind to your food nutrients and steal them from you.

I swallowed a live, raw goldfish once, to freak out my brother. That fish was still kicking when he hit the stomach acid. Maybe you should raise minnows or something.

Whatever you do, stay away from raw CAFO meat. I had some seared with a raw center and was bed-ridden for the first time in over two years. (been primal since late October)

Raw beef is good. As far as fish goes, I eat all my fish raw. I'm not saying that I know it's safe but I have yet get complications from it. This includes frozen salmon and tuna, fresh oysters, and even some salmon from the seafood case(that was likely previously frozen). The majority of fruits are good raw, as is raw dairy. The only thing I currently eat cooked is starch(potatoes and rice), cruciferous veggies, coffee, bone broth, shrimp, and crab/lobster.

I second the raw carrots, they are very beneficial.
