100% raw Paleo?

Answered on August 19, 2014

Just like all other questions, lets start with the word "Anyone" doing 100% raw paleo out there? This means lots of vegetables and fruit, especially a lot of juicing and smoothie making, and includes eating raw beef, lamb, pork, chicken, salmon etc. And how does going raw effect your body, spirit, and mind?

Sorry guys - I have LOTS of references in that article backing it up with science. Not trying to self promote at all. Just trying to help. I have no agenda other than helping people see that raw is not the answer to paleo. People seem really misguided.

Hi Diana- please don't make posts solely consisting of links to your website. Not to sound like a hardass, but you've been asked a couple times under different accounts to refrain from self-promotion. On the other hand, feel free take the ideas from your post and put them into an answer :)

Any particular reason why it must be 100% raw? 50% would be enough to digest food and maximize nutrient/mineral absorption. Eat something raw/fermented with the rest of your meal. Raw milk, fermented milk, raw meat, bone stock, fermented vegetables, fermented beans, etc. (Yes, I'm aware some of these are not Paleo) There are many reasons why you should avoid eating certain vegetables raw, but since people already gave you good links, I'll shut up and let you read them.

It means whatever people want it to mean. I'd stick to the meat because raw plants aren't digested well by humans... maybe that's why people use juicing as a crutch.

Why does it mean lots of vegetables and fruit and juicing?

Go for it if you like, but know that 100% raw may not be very natural for humans. Check out a Harvard primatologist's book Catching Fire: How Cooking Made Us Human. Fascinating, fun, informative. He presents evidence that people have been cooking for about 2m years, human bodies are designed for cooked food, all cultures cook, and it's very hard for humans to survive without cooking unless they live near a store that gets food shipped in from all over the world.

its been amazing for me! 5 years so far, lots of raw meats, eggs and veggies, some cooked veggies, fresh berries, herbs and even a little raw dairy here and there. there are plenty of first hand experiences chronicled over at rawpaleodietforum.com

I find the raw idea kind of interesting, but I enjoy cooked food too much.

Apparently, this guy believes it cures cancer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGySn4H0KbQ&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PLA69F19C77086F819
