What are the inspirational quotes you live by that promote the Paleo lifestyle?

Logic can raise a conscientious person to perform at "100 percent". If you have this, congratulations - you exercise Aristotelian self-mastery.

But we also have within ourselves the ability to perform at a Nietzschean "110 percent" or even "150 percent" - as oftentimes said in sports psychology - if mind and emotion find a source of in-spiration. Oftentimes in that which is honorable, noble, and more perfect. Maxims, proverbs, and witticisms seem to express these concisely.

Please share your favorites.

In a few days I will post my own as drawn from Ancient Greece, Stoicism, the Protestant Work Ethic, and elsewhere. I am not holding back to be a deliberate tease or "stylishly late to the party" - I simply won't have time to pull up the scattered sources until the weekend.

Edit

"That which doesn't kill me only makes me stronger" - Friedrich Nietzsche, Twilight of the Idols (1888)

The above quote I almost had placed in the high school yearbook under my "mugshot" (this was some years ago), but retracted the week before publication. Whereas the quote has a certain motivational effect, I decided that it is not true - many things can not kill me and yet not make me stronger. Another "bad advice" quote comes from Benjamin Franklin's autobiography with regard to food, which I will post later.

In Stephen's defense, I've read almost all of Chuck's novels and still have no idea to pronounce or spell his last name.

My original intent was to post more food related quotes, but don't have the time at the moment to pull them up. In general, however, inspirational quotes are "hacks" that have an effect stronger than pure logic. I'm thinking of those that are pro-Paleo lifestyle.

Everything we do is out of our own interest. It's impossible to act outside of it. "It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest."- Adam Smith

"Normal people are space aliens." - I read it on Cranky Fitness I think but can never find the post...it was talking about how you should deal with the social isolation/deprivation of any kind of restrictive diet by reminding yourself what all the consequences of "normal" food are.

"Confront the duck!" - Julia Child. This is what I tell myself when I'm trying some ambitious new recipe.

"The real hopeless victims of mental illness are to be found among those who appear to be most normal. Many of them are normal because they are so well adjusted to our mode of existence, because their human voice has been silenced so early in their lives, that they do not even struggle or suffer or develop symptoms as the neurotic does. They are normal not in what may be called the absolute sense of the word; they are normal only in relation to a profoundly abnormal society. Their perfect adjustment to that abnormal society is a measure of their mental sickness. These millions of abnormally normal people, living without fuss in a society to which, if they were fully human beings, they ought not to be adjusted." - Aldous Huxley

Your health and happiness are more important than a 16-hour fast, carb/protein/fat breakdown, 6-pack abs, single digit body fat percentage and number on the scale. Don???t let food run your life ??? use it to fuel your body!

I love this quote and I say it to myself whenever I am tempted with food that isn't in tune with my plan.

As a favorite all-time quote:

"A country as stupid as this shouldn't be allowed to exist." - Jaroslav Hasek, in The Good Soldier Svejk

As inspirational:

"Don't merely look out for your own interests but also for the interests of others." - Paul, in Philippians

"Don't ask questions that you don't want to know the answer to." (MIB3) I have been living by this quote even before I heard it to keep stress levels down. Eating in restaurants, as long as the dish is gluten free I'm golden.
