I feel disgusted by protein

I've been eating paleo for only 6 days. The first few days, I felt the expected "carb flu" and was very tired and headachy. The last two days I've felt much better, but I am so disgusted by meat and protein, and I'm dreading my meals.

Usually I love meat and can't get enough. But I am completely turned off. I'm 118 lb, 5'2', I exercise moderately for an hour (a brisk walk, power yoga, or strength/ cardio mix) about 4 times a week, and I've basically just been eating meat and veggies. I cook the veggies in a tablespoon of olive oil or butter.

This morning I made myself two eggs scrambled with spinach and nitrate-free ham. I could only eat half. I see the suggested servings and I think- 4 eggs for breakfast!? Seriously, I would barf. I am totally disgusted by all this meat.

Does this mean I need to eat more fat? I eat plenty of vegetables and I have been eating yogurt in the mornings to offset all the meat. I also eat some nuts (about 10-20) and a couple apples during the day.

Thanks, for the ideas about what is typical for you. Sounds way more interesting than what I was eating, felt like I was in the meat/ veggie grind forever!

Yeah. I ate more fat and it seemed to solve it. Now I'm not feeling the need to eat so much nuts and fruit, either. I'm just eating veggies with enough fat to feel full, and a little protein.

Thanks for the judgmental tone james ;) I definitely hear your point though. so what do you eat to feel full, when you don't eat meat?

If that pisses someone off, they might not be an adult :) Thanks for the suggestion. I'm totally open to vegan, but it wasn't sustainable for me when I tried it. I definitely need some meat to feel optimal.

Yes, definitely true. I backed off the meat and am eating more fat now. This definitely helped! My reason for going paleo is partly for weight loss (I've struggled with about 7 extra pounds for my adult life.) The other part is the bigger part though- just an intuition that my SAD is not the right balance, so I've been experimenting with new "lifestyle diets" for years.

You know, I'm sure this will piss off most everyone here, but maybe Vegan is the path for you... it is certainly possible to be ultra-fit and healthy on a Vegan diet.

Depends on your goals, but if it were me, I'd be eating more starchy carbs. I don't really eat all that much more meat than I did when I ate a standard American diet, just more fat, and far fewer processed foods & grains.

And I couldn't eat 4 eggs for breakfast either. I eat 2 eggs scrambled w/ cheese & a very small amount of bacon or ham, plus a banana. Lunch is usually leftover meat (not much -- about 1-2 oz) or liver pate or sausage, apple or asian pear, cheese or yogurt, small bit of chocolate. Dinner is usually meat or fish, avocado, potato or sweet potato or rice or corn tortillas, veggie or salad, another piece of fruit, sometimes more cheese.

Feel free on your protein intake. Nothing is written on the stone.
Paleo is a wide world.
I eat every day eggs, the number depends on my hens, sometimes 3 or 4 or 5.

You're probably getting more protein than your body needs. Too much protein can be constipating. I gave up red meat a week ago as an experiment b/c I have IBS and wow, I feel so much better. Are you constipated? I'd recommend more fruits and veggies and less meat and nuts. Don't force the protein if you're not craving it.

What's your reason for going paleo?

Have you gone insane? If you don't feel like meat, don't eat it. A high meat diet isn't particularly healthy anyway, there's thousands of other foods you could be eating. Do people really think force feeding themselves and dreading your food is a sensible or healthy approach to dieting? I haven't craved meat for weeks so I haven't eaten any. When I feel like eating meat I'll go buy myself a grass fed T-bone.

I had this happen to me about 6-7 weeks into the diet after being strict very low carb and eating a lot more meat than I normally did. I cooked up a big thick rib eye steak and just couldn't touch it, I was totally turned off by the meat, fat, and protein. This was pretty bizarre because I've always liked it. But I think I just OD'ed on it.

I ate a few meals of berries, yogurt, raw fruits and vegetables, generally ate light for a couple of days, and felt a lot better. I think the body can just get overloaded with the fat and protein, especially if you change your diet suddenly.
