I ate about 2.75 pounds of chuck roast in 24 hours...too much?

I made a roast and it was DELICOUS...it was also about 2.75 pounds. I ate it ALL in 24 hours. This is along with my eggs, bacon, almond butter, avocado, berries, greens, a friends deer meat wrapped in bacon, etc.....

Is that too much protein? I think my protein intake yesterday (Jan. 20, 2011) was at like 250 g. but I wasnt full until I ate the venison (at about 8:45 PM AFTER a 1.5 lbs. of chuck roast and almond butter mixed with cacao powder) I know that were told to eat until were full, but I want to say it was more of a binge than me being LEGITIMATELY HUNGRY

Thoughts?!

Sounds like you had a very rewarding day, paleo style. I could put that much pot roast down too, but the side effects of being bloated, gassy and constipated hold me back from all-out binges on anything.

Yes, according to Jaminet, anything over about 600 calories of protein a day can cause an excessive buildup of ammonia. Ammonia poisoning or protein poisoning being the possible result of long term over-consumption. I don't think one day will be anything to worry about, but you can definitely overdo it on the protein. You want the bulk of your calories coming from fat.

My thought is that I was listening to Paul Jaminet on Underground Wellness yesterday and he said to limit meat to a Lb. a day.

Wow... that's a lot of food.

But the most important question is...

"How do you feel?"

IF you are fairly new to this lifestyle of eating, this kind of "meat binge" isn't really extraordinary... in fact I would say most of us here have done it once or twice. I've found personally that the occasional over-eating with good, wholesome, food, dosen't affect me in a negative way. Eating this way all the time is never a good idea, but when starting out, it's a non-issue...

So, don't worry about it.

During my VLC days I ate about 2-3lbs of grassfed meat per day. Now that I'm more "classic" in my approach (about 20-25% of daily cal from fruits/veg) I find I eat considerably less meat but still probably touching 1-2lbs a few times a week.

Feast and famine/fast. You did the feast, now do some fasting. Paleo need not be meat-centric. Sure, it's not harmful, but there are paleo diets out there that don't involving eating pounds of meat daily.

I wouldn't argue that it's a detriment to your health to eat this way, but after a certain amount, you're suffering diminishing returns. 44 ounces of beef roast have like 350 grams of protein, I'm thinking you probably didn't need that level of protein in a 24 hour period. A lot of it got wasted.

Sounds like alot to me, but I guess it mostly depends on how you feel. Every once in awhile is probably OK, but this sounds like too much food for many if you are doing it every day.

I eat almost that amount over 2 to 4 hours many days. No obvious harm done so far. I don't know how eating a lot of meat when one is hungry could ever not be paleo.
