I worked up to 6 capsules of the NOW foods super enzymes and never felt a thing. I read that normal levels of stomach acid are approximately equivalent to 14 capsules of the super enzymes, but it still worried me to get up to 6 and not feel anything. I think Robb Wolf recommends not going beyond about 6 or 7. (Again, this is for the capsules, not the tablets which are thought to be ineffective.)

Shawn, it sounds like you need a higher potency.

I did this and could take 10 pills with each meal without feeling any burning.

That is the protocol I used, and it worked great. May want to precede it with a week or two of Aloe Juice and/or bone broth if you have any reflux issues, just to make sure the lining of your digestive tract is healed enough to handle the extra acid.

Nick, you should go to a GI doctor and get some tests. There are lots of things that can cause the symptoms you describe. An upper endoscopy is a safe test and will offer lots of clues. Celiac? H pylori? Other?

Go with Korions advice then. Test for H.Pylori as HCL keeps it and other pathogens down.

I learned an hcl protocol that works really well for getting your body to start producing adequate levels, and not staying reliant on supplementation indefinitely. Here's how to determine your dosage: ten minutes into a meal with plenty of animal protein, take one hcl tablet. After ten minutes, if you don't feel a burning sensation in your digestive tract, take another. Repeat until you feel a burning sensation, then minus one is your normal dose for a protein meal. At some point when your body starts producing its own hcl, this dose will cause the burning sensation. Now take one away, and that's the new dose. Continue this process until you no longer need any supplemented hcl, because you've stimulated your body's production to adequate levels!

I would rule out any gastrointestinal issues via EGD first. If that all comes back negative, the doctors will prescribe a proton pump inhibitor for simple dyspepsia; refuse that. I would then try apple cider vinegar, 10-15 grams vitamin C and d-lymonene daily.

Lol i have high stomach acid after doing Paleo...now if I sometimes regurgitate (I'm young, I drink), I have horrible epigastric pain from the reflux. I also can digest and feel good (no food coma) even if I eat about 2 lbs of meat now...
