Does iodine kill probiotics and good gut flora?

I saw that someone had asked this question (I thought), and now I can't find it. I have c. diff., and I need large doses of probiotics and a healthy gut flora.

Iodine kills c. diff., and Americans apparently don't get enough iodine. I know that Betadine kills virtually every pathogen, and I read that physicians who prescribe Betadine douches for yeast infections don't realize that they're killing off everything else in the vagina as well.

So: If I supplement my diet with food-grade Iodine drops like Lugols, or if I do an enema with the same, will the iodine kill the good-gut flora?

Thanks, Margaret

Iodine definitely kills c. diff., but that's the betadine you buy at the drugstore, not food-grade iodine. That is, I don't know about food-grade iodine. I also don't know if the food-grade iodine kills probiotics or not (whether taken orally or via enema). Margaret

I would love to eat seaweed and so on, but my digestive system is so messed up, I can barely eat anything, except cooked veggies, cooked fruits, and meat. btw, I like daikon radish, but I don't think it would be so great cooked.

i read that it doesn't kill the good bacteria, but it wasn't strong enough to kill my c diff. I took it orally but with the weird side effects I got from it, I didn't think the enemas were a good idea.

Why not eat more seaweed with pickled daikon radish? Iodine + probiotics + prebiotics + delicious.
