Taking Probiotic with ACV?

Answered on June 28, 2014

Would there be any adverse effect from having an ACV pill after taking a probiotic pill? I have been taking ACV pills before meals to help with digestion etc...I also try to take my probiotic about 30 minutes before eating (this is when I can remember either of these).

I feel like the acidity may effect the effectiveness, although that is a complete guess. Thanks!

Good call, 3.0 it is. (It looks like that's around what Bragg uses.)

I was going by the culturesforhealth guide, where I bought my starters:

I guess it just depends how far you let it go:

It looks like the bacterium would probably much prefer it over 3, so maybe better not to mix the two if that batch of ACV is very acidic, although probably insignificant in effect when you eat them as pills.

Not so. ACV is about 3.0. I fermented hard cider for a few years, and it always came in at 3.3-3.4. Wine vinegar, Concord grapes, and lemon juice are all 2.8. I can not see any advantage or disadvantage in taking them together, though.

LAB ferment down through the mid 3's on a pH scale, where apple cider vinegar is likely going to be in the 4-5 range, so I don't see the acidity having an adverse effect, even if you were to mix the two together.

Unpasteurized pineapple / fruit peel vinegar is tasty stuff, if you've got a couple months to wait around. Delicious organic vinegar + probiotics in one that you can drizzle over a salad without having to eat any cellulose wrappers / pill fillers.
