I want to start off by acknowledging that similar questions have been posted:
IDK if you guys have noticed the banner at the top of Dave asking us to fill out a survey and telling us that he's looking to "grow this community to new heights". But it just seems like to me, considering we have over 50k unique visitors each day, that maybe we should add a Direct or Private messaging system or a chat-room where we can discuss all things paleo. Considering we are going under new management this seems like a good time to suggest a change like this.
There have been several questions asked recently related to the closing of questions, some users feel the closings were unnecessary, some feel they were necessary. These questions may not have had to of been asked in the first place if there was a chat room where people could conversate.
Sometimes there are lots of little questions asked by newbies (low rep points) that could easiy be answered in a chat and make the main list of questions less cluttered.
The reason I'm asking this question NOW is because one of the questions on the survey is "6. If there???s one thing you could change about paleohacks.com, what would it be?", and I think that if enough people put chatroom or private messaging in that part of the survey then we might actually get it which would be AWESOME.
Come on guys, we gotta work together to make this happen, if you want this then fill out the survey and tell Dave you want a chat system on question #6.

Well recently I was on paleohacks and after receiving a stack exchange error I was like WTF and did some research. It turns out back in the day, paleohacks was part of stack exchange's free network. But stack exchange decided to stop that service and grand-daddy the sites that were already using their service under the condition that they wouldn't receive any further updates. TF, paleohacks is stuck on the original 1.0(I think it's 1.0, might be a different version though) version of stack exchange and cannot receive updates and stay on their network. Therefore it would be impossible for us to get the chat feature without making SERIOUS changes to the site, such as redesigning the site, setting up a new DB, etc, it would be very extensive and is likely why we don't have this chat service already. Hope this puts this question to rest sufficiently.
