We call those people "re-enacters." Most paleo people are not looking to literally recreate what paleolithic hunter-gatherers ate, they're trying to use that as a starting point to figure out what a healthy diet is.

should probably rethink then rephrase your question, assuming common sense doesnt kick in before then.

can do if needed (unless you are adhering to paleo re-enactment as AxialGentleman mentioned),

in fact some would say that today's soils are lacking the nutrients of days gone by & subsequently so are the foods higher up the land based food chain.

a quote from Paul Jaminet's perfect-health-diet web site (~paleo+white rice),

We also recommend augmenting the diet with certain supplements. See our Supplement Recommendations page. These nutrients are deficient in modern diets due to removal of minerals from drinking water by treatment, depletion of minerals from soil by agriculture, or modern lifestyles that deprive us of vitamin D by indoor living. The least amount of processed foods and supplements you can get by with get you closer to what we think Paleo people lived like. Obviously it would be a hard life now living out in the open with no modern conveniences and having to kill your food with a rock. I used protein powders for a bit and then finally gave them up for more eggs & beef, etc. But then again I'm not working out to a purpose other than health and weight loss/maintenance. I still take vitamin D, fish oil, kelp, trying to mitigate the deficiencies in my diet. After all why not take advantage of our growth in knowledge and technology. I'll skip the food processing as much as possible.

@wtfgod that's why I was asking because I have heard from some people that you absolutely cannot take any form of supplement or pre-workout because its a caveman diet, but ive also heard that you can...so I was just wondering what I could and could not do. I lift 4 days a week and do cardio 3 days a week. On my lifting days I take C4 and BCAA powder, and as for supplements and protein I use all "Herbalife" products which I know from personal experience are good as well as healthy.

and i was giving a serious answer.....seriously rethink your question as it makes no sense. unless you are assuming paleo excludes anything people couldnt do 10,000 yrs ago.

if you have questions about how healthy a supplement is, then you should probably give specifics about which supplement it actually is.

so like i said.. rethink what you want, then rephrase your question because ofcourse people take supplements on paleo it just matters which ones in what situation and at what amount.

@wtfgod wow! I was asking a serious question...I wasn't looking for someone to be an asshole about it.
