What causes poop that you don't have to wipe?

Sometimes I get poops that leave a never-ending trail on my toilet paper. Other times, I wipe and realize I didn't even need to because there's nothing there. What causes these no-wiping-necessary bowel movements?

This week I've mistakenly been supplementing with potato flour instead of resistant potato starch (info on the packet misleading) - things suddenly got streaky down below.

Sufficient gut flora and fiber promote solid, un-wipey poo. Like lots of sauerkraut. Squatting instead of sitting when you poop helps, too. It gets more out.

Carbs from grains, etc. On a low carb diet you will poop dry and clean, maybe too much of a good thing. When you fill up with grains and sugar you will get a mess. If your toilet pays you based on volume then stick with carbs. YMMV caution.

When you get a never ending trail on your toilet paper, it is because there is still poop in your asshole and you are just rubbing that poop around...like a magic marker. A 'one wipe wonder' or no wipe wonder would occur when you can get all the poop out of your ass.

Another factor that can influence this is what position you are pooping in. Sitting normally on the toilet pushes your cheeks together and poop can smear them on its way out. Squatting spreads the cheeks and gives the poop a direct path to the toilet water.

It is a given that diet has something to do with this. I find the more leafy greens I eat the more 'one wipe wonders' I get.

In addition, male kegel exercises have had the side effect of giving me more control of my poops. Try your best not to 'pinch' off the loaf because once you lose the momentum of the whole turd it can be hard to get the last piece out. This causes the 'magic marker' effect.
