How long does it take you to poop?

When I feel a poop coming on, I am already at the point where I could go immediately or hold it in. When I get in the bathroom, I squat on the toilet seat and poop immediately, maybe have to wipe 1 or 2 times and the whole ordeal is over in about a minute.

My question is what's up with spending so much time pooping?

Yes, if I am staying in hotels within the US it is easy for me to bring my nutribullet blender with me. This saves money also by letting me go to a grocery store rather than a restaurant for meals, but more important I get fresh green smoothies.

thank you for the quick reply! Do you find a way to keep your smoothies or whatever paleo stuff going other places? I totally know what you mean about walking in the front door. It's magical. :-)

Beth, you bring up a great point. When I travel, my body usually will forget to poop for one whole day while I'm travelling. Then the rhythm comes right back. It's like my body knows I am not home or in a comfortable place to poop and holds it back. Maybe it's from the stress of travel that I don't relax enough. Sometimes, I walk in my front door and then I have to poop immediately like my body knows I'm home and in a good spot.

I tend to eat similar types of food around the same times each day. This lets me get in to a pooping 'rhythm' when I generally have an idea of when I will have to poop, generally 5am and 5pm. If I eat a little less than normal, it will only be one at 5am.

Squatting definitely helps, usually one push is all it takes. Also, a few oranges or apples in the evening will loosen me up for an easy 5am dump

I usually spend more time in awe of how much poop I made and analyzing the texture and color based on the foods I had been eating than actually pooping and wiping.

We need a new thread: "Only on PaleoHacks"...

But I find the discussion really interesting. My girlfriend is extremely regular, goes immediately upon waking every day, but she hangs out in there for half an hour looking at facebook and playing games on the phone. I just don't get it! I'm one who's had long standing regularity problems yet even when I used to get all constipated/bound up, when I finally did go it tended to be a brief ordeal just as you describe, though it might have been painful and pebbly at times.

My system is pretty straightened out now on paleo and with the squatting, exercising, and high fat + high veggies diet. I go 1-3 times a day depending on diet+exercise+environment and it's always a quick trip in and out of the bathroom. Always found the stash of books by some peoples' toilets confusing.

Usually it takes me about 5 minutes to poop. I try not to push, although when I first sit on the toilet I do push to get it started. After the initial push I just relax and let it come out by itself. My stools are usually firm so it does take a few minutes. If I have a real urgent need or if it is pushing real bad like its ready to come out before I get my pants down, I can poop in about 1-2 minutes.

From some other comments:

Traveling does cause me to be constipated. If I'm staying with friends or relatives I need some alone time to poop when constipated. If I can, I run a shower and then push to get rid of it before showering. If I'm at a hotel I'll push like mad to poop before checkout.

Probably most people do this but don't admit it, I stand up and look at my poop in the toilet before wiping. I think I do this because it feels good to poop and I just want to see what I made and why it felt so good. Usually I do 2-3 firm/textured/long turds.

At home never any problems, over with it fast and smooth. Could never get what my ex was doning for half an hour in the bathroom 8-O. When travelling I sometimes get constipation issues, think it's due to me having problems going to new bathrooms :)

maybe I should make a new question, but what about when traveling? Time zones (particularly overseas) really screw up the rhythms...

I'm the same. Usually nice and quick and done within 30 seconds. When a friend mentions they're off to "drop the kids off at the pool" and are gone for half the day and it smells like a bomb went off afterwards, i get to be all smug. Although i've been reading the same magazine in the toilet for about a year now because i spend much less time pooping. Maybe one day i'll finish it.

I'm with the OP, feel it coming on, walk (do not run) to the bathroom, and make a deposit. The difference lies in the fact that I do not wipe. I wash. A habit I picked up in Asia. feels good.

However, when i first switched over, i did so very bruskly and so I had some terribly difficult, painful and very hard defecation experiences.

Raw vegetables, sauerkraut are a couple of my aids.
