What happened to Fat Head on Netflix?

I just went to Netflix and noticed "Fat Head" is no longer available. I rented it just last month. Anyone know what happened? Thanks.

(Resisting jumping to any conspiracy conclusions. Barely...)

They have it available for Instant Streaming, though it seems with only one channel of audio.

@Paleo Dave -- I was gonna laugh your comment off -- but I just realized it is within the realm of possibility. :)

Weird. I just posted a comment on Tom's blog. We'll see if he knows.

I wonder if psycho vegans are getting it from Netflix and deliberately breaking/losing it?

Thank you for asking this - I noticed the same thing and didn't realize it had been pulled.

Interesting. It's not available for me implying a nationwide pulling of the movie.

I just called Netflix, because I noticed the same thing and this prompted me to get more curious. The customer service rep couldn't tell me what specifically happened to this title, but said it was probably one of two things:

1) They had a limited number of copies, which were all damaged, and now they're waiting to get more from the studio, or

2) The studio asked Netflix to stop distributing it.

The Netflix guy I spoke with said that the fact that the movie is still on the site is an indication that they have every intention to continue distributing it as soon as they can. He told me to keep it in my Saved queue in the meantime.

I haven't looked into this particular case, but sometimes a movie will become temporarily unavailable for rental when it's released for sale. This is particularly true when a big seller such as Walmart negotiates a period of exclusivity. Another possibility is a dispute between the distributor and the rental company, eg. http://www.choosedvdrental.co.uk/dvd-rental-guide/news/universal-dispute-leaves-dvd-renters-without-new-releases.html . It's possible that it could be due to political or economic pressure, but I have never had a problem renting politically-oriented movies from Netflix.
