Pms and breast pain worsened on paleo

Has anyone else noticed pms symptoms including moodiness and and breast pain getting worse on a low carb/paleo diet? I'm at the end of my tether! I have had constant breast pain especially on one side. Have become very moody for 2 weeks before and then my period lasts up to 2 weeks!! It's a nightmare. I have always had problems but I've been eating low carb/ paleo for 2 months now and it has become WAY worse. Especially the breast pain which is constant to the point where I have to wear a bra to bed. As you can imagine this doesn't do much for the libido either. I take 1000mg of starflower oil and vitamin B complex also. Would really love some advice. I'm 40 by the way. Thanks!

Spinach doesn't contain bioavailable/heme iron. Eat an extra ounce or two of red meat or liver to get that mineral from food.

Hi, I've had some similar troubles and now have two remedies I use. For breast pain I use calcium tablets. A health nurse told me about it and the pain goes away within a couple of days! For Pms I take some cod liver oil..,..works a treat

Thank you for all your answers. Paleoholic I will definitely try that with the avocado or maybe even the sweet potato although I haven't had even sweet potato since I started paleo! I hope the crazy period thing isn't going to continue! Jake I don't think I could face liver but might up the red meat those days! Jenny thanks for that, I had never heard of taking calcium for breast pain, that's new to me! Delighted to hear something so simple can be the solution. Bought some today so here's hoping!! Will keep you posted :-)

I like to call the moodiness "caveman crankiness" (the reference comes from here). I like to take L-Glutamine and vitamin B6 around that time of month, which seems to help. And I know it sounds counterintuitive, but upping your "good carbs" and "good fats" can actually help your PMS symptoms. So the next time moodiness strikes, try making guacamole (or just eating half an avocado) or throwing a sweet potato in the microwave with a little bit of cinnamon.

And if all else fails, 90% Lindt chocolate might do the trick. (Although if you're craving chocolate, you need iron, so I usually eat a spinach salad, instead).

(Also-- you aren't alone in the crazy period schedule. I got a second period A WEEK after my last one ended last month. My doctor said it was normal given the way I've been eating, so I wouldn't sweat it too much).
