PMS Control-Ladies Only

So I'm experiencing horrible PMS symptoms, just VERY moody and food cravings like whoa. The hormonal imbalance my body goes through a few days before I my period is just awful. I lose control over my insulin sensitivity. I'm so tired and have fallen asleep at my desk at work before. The moodiness is crazy though, I get very sensitive to how people talk to me. then it lasts the entire week I have my period. It takes a long while for me to feel "normal" again. can't be suffering this much every month because of a period. Is there something I could be supplementing with at that time of the month or a food I should eat more of to help with my PMS? I was thinking like iodine or something???

Other info about me: 24, strict Paleo (and I truly mean that. i'm not one of those people who thinks they are but puts cream in their coffee...i don't drink coffee), avid crossfitter, supplement with fish oil, vitamin d, b complex, e and c. currently not eating a wide variety of foods, usually i strive for that, but it's been a bit of an expensive month, have no cramps (they went away when i started paleo), not on birth control, have a job that drives my cortisol levels through the roof.

Any thoughts are well appreciated! Thanks girls!

Do you have a good doc? testing would be good

Dong Quai herb? I don't have a good doc . . . tried this and it helped me. It does make you more sensitive to the sun.

Yogi tea helped me, Dong Quai and other herbs - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009F3SEQ/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00

You should try talking to a functional medicine doc. My naturopath checked my estrogen/progesterone levels and has me taking vitex to get them back in line. There's actually been a published study that showed that vitex helped PMS symptoms, so it's not just "voodoo" or whatever. ;)

Robb Wolf covered this a little on his podcast this week. I'd recommend checking it out. A couple points I recall him discussing are stress and fish oil as irritants for PMS symptoms.

Payees, talk to a doctor firs rand foremost...get stuff checked. I was the same as you in such that my pms was horrid and there were times I could literally fall asleep while standing up....I felt very dysfunctional. FINALLY a doctor thought maybe they would check my iron....ta da...that was a big portion of the problem. Started taking iron, Vit. D, and in about 3 months felt MUCH better. Also zinc/magnesium which heled me sleep better as well. Best of luck!

I found relief through acupuncture and herbs. Hormones and I do not get along, AT ALL, so when they surge through my body, I become painfully mean. If you are on birth control, it can exacerbate the problem. You may benefit from talking to a natural healer for help, but definitely have your hormone levels checked by an MD if possible.
