hi newbie here..as i am allergic to wheat dairy and eggs hope this will be a good fit. have tried low carb and failed because....as is true now..by the third day i am feeling very weak and a little brain spacey. i am on day 3 now and having same issues. i also have low blood sugar so i just ate 1/2 teaspoon honey with some coconut oil. even so am feeling lighter and a bit clearer. has anyone else had this happen? i am hoping with fruit in the diet i will feel ok...also am trying to rid 15 or so pounds...thanks.

Can you give us a break down of your meals? That would probably allow people to offer more appropriate advice.

Day 3 crappiness when restricting carbohydrates is known as low carb flu. Totally normal, it is what your body undergoes to switch fuel sources. Extra salt, water, and rest are called for. It sucks, but it will pass in the majority of people, you just have to be patient. If you go weeks and are still feeling yucky or having blood sugar issues, you probably aren't cut out for low carb, or at least need to work on liver health first. Some people thrive on it, and some don't.

While there are sometimes therapeutic reasons to go low carb, there is no reason you need to go low carb to do paleo. Check out Paul and Shou-Ching Jaminet's Perfect Health Diet. http://perfecthealthdiet.com/the-diet/

Yes, low carb flu is real and temporary. If you are 50 lbs overweight and want to lose weight quickly, low carb is probably a good idea. Otherwise, there's no need to restrict your cabs anyway. As people have said, just go paleo with moderate sweet potatoes etc and you'll do fine. Later, you can go lower carb later if your research indicates that fits your particular goals, but paleo needn't be low carb.

In my experience you have to make a gradual switch - and it looks like your metabolism is telling you that. Maybe you should try to gradually lower the carbs intake or get "safe" starches like Sweet potatoes.
