Hi, all. I am on Day 4 of the Paleo diet. So far, I've really enjoyed it!! I loooove veggies and meat, and I am anemic so it is perefect for getting in my iron-rich foods. I have a few questions.
I cannot get my urine to lighten up. Prior to my paleo transition, I only drank water with the occasional cup of juice or sweet tea. So, I'm used to having light or even clear pee. Now, I drink even more water, but I find that I'm urinating less frequently and that my pee will not lighten up. I get an adequate amount of salts and seasonings on my food so I don't think there is an electrolyte issue and I've stopped taking multivitamins. Thankfully, there isn't a strong odor and it's not darrrrk yellow, but it is very yellow. Could I just be retaining water? Am I dehydrated? Or is this just a regular part of the Paleo detox.
Water retention leads me to my second question.
I've gained three pounds since starting Paleo. It was rather discouraging seeing as I was trying to lower the scale by 5 to 10 pounds. I'm wondering, tho, is it just water retention? The reason why I have my doubts is because I am very familiar with water retention. You feel heavy, bloated, and just plain shitty. I don't feel like that at all. Actually, one of the things that I've enjoyed about the Paleo diet is that I feel lighter in general. There's no bloated stomach or lethargy like there is with a heavy greasy meal. Fwiw, I keep my carb intake fairly low. I eat about one cup blackberries a day to keep my sweet tooth in check. I don't eat starchy vegetables either. Also, I get about 1200 calories in a day, so I'm not sure what the issue is.
