I wanted to share this link. I'm pretty sure it's a paleo issue, but if not, delete it or vote me down. I just wanted to share because I think it's so important for us to be able to have a choice in where our meat comes from. The Michigan DNR is over-stepping their boundaries by attacking the small family hog farmer. If this law goes through, it will put several small hog farmers out of business and potentially harm farmers in several other states.

Oh, I see I need an actual question.....

How would you go about spreading the word about this issue and how what would you do to help support the farmers? What do you think of the DNR's decision?

Thanks for the response. This situation makes me so mad! I'm not one to get worked up about things, but it is so unnecessary. I agree that it's important to spread the word. Thanks!

Well...that sucks.

Definitely a Paleo issue in my opinion. The quality of our meat matters and CAFO's don't provide quality by any measure. Lobbyist and money are probably behind this, as the article points out.

This is in a way, good I suppose. Small farms must be growing enough that Big Agra feels threatened by it, at least in Michigan. But that is also bad, because it means they are going to start circumventing what the consumer wants, and try to force it upon us with lovely legislation.

The best thing we can do is let people know stuff like this is going on, and to keep supporting local farms. They'll need the funds to fight for their property...

There is so much of this kind of thing going on. Law abiding citizens are finding themselves unitentionally living on the fringes of or even outside of the law.
If naturally raised plants and animals and the struggle against Big Ag are interesting to you, go take a look at http://www.permies.com/forums There are a few fellow paleo people (warriors? lol) over there.
